A/N: This is an au where a pair of flowers is what connects/creates soulmates.
__________________________________________________________Richard smiled at the woman who'd just bought a flower. He let out a sigh as she walked out of the florist and ran a hand through his messy hair. He looked around the store at the variety of flowers, the odd thing about his florist was that despite the many types of flowers that were there there was only two of each. The tall man knew that the customer most likely meet the love of her life. It was a part of Richards job and curse. As a kid he'd been given the flower shop through his mother Amanda's will, the shop had a garden behind it. There were flowers from everywhere, of every colour, shape, size and smell. However, only two of each grew. It was Rich's job to nurture the plants until they were bought.
The way the "flower connection", as Richard called it, worked was that one person would come into the florist and choose a flower, the would then take it home, either potted or picked, and would take care of it. Not long after the flower was chosen someone else would come in and if they chose the same flower 'destiny' took control and the two would meet and fall in love. Of course there was a catch to the sweet matchmaking, if a flower began to wither it meant that the relationship was either doomed or the person didn't have long to find the other person who had the same flower. If the flower died the relationship would end and the couple would break up and most likely end up choosing other flowers, which was very rare, or if the flower died and the 'destined' couple didn't find each other then the first person to choose the flower would never be able to love.
Richard himself had taken a flower a while ago, a simply daisy. But recently it had been loosing its petals, each one falling off separately every day or so. Rich had been expecting this, he never really thought anyone would love him. So he watched his little daisy as it slowly died.
Richard looked at the floral clock that sat on the wall, it was around 5:45pm. Rich stood up straight and stretched, the store never closed, just most nights there wouldn't be anyone there and so people could just take a flower. Rich would sometimes ask his older brother Connor to work the night but if he didn't the two wouldn't worry about anyone stealing their money. If someone tried to break into the cash register it would administer a small shock which would grow in strength if it was forced open again within the next 20 minuets. Rich grabbed his black and white coat off of the rack on the wall behind the desk and threw it over his wide shoulders. He dimmed the lights in the shop and walked home to his apartment.
Gavin grumbled as he stumbled home from the DPD. It had been as tiring as ever at work today so Gavin was completely exhausted. As he walked he saw a shop still had its lights on, so he wandered across the street to see if anyone had broken in. It was around 10 at night so someone was probably stealing the cash. However, as he looked into the store he saw that a sign made of fake flowers that spelt 'Open' was facing outwards, which meant no one had broken in. The brunet grumbled and pushed the door open, a bell quietly announcing his arrival. He looked around at the assortments of flowers. When he didn't spot anyone Gavin just shrugged and turned to leave, but not before picking a little daisy off the floor.
