The next day, [y/n] wakes up tiredly and rubs her eyes. I freeze on the spot, wondering if she even wanted me here at all. Then, she smiles at me sloppily.
"Morning Al..." she grins loopily, seeming all out of whack. "Hehe...you sleep well?" She sounded like she was going through a hangover, or something like that. And it scared me.
"I-I can't sleep," I frown, getting a closer look at her face. It was tinged pink at her cheeks, her lips drained of color. Her eyes were red and bleary, and her hair was in ratted tangles around her face. She giggles.
"Oops, I forgot about that," she beams. "Oh, where're you going?" I was already right by the door. Before I could reply, she bursts into tears. "Y-you w-wanna leave me!"
"[y/n]!" I shout, worried to crap. She was acting so strangely, it was scaring me. "WINRY! EDWARD! COME UP HERE, PLEASE! IT'S AN EMERGENCY!" [y/n] couldn't stop crying. In fact, she looked scared herself.
Winry rushes in, Edward following groggily. Winry quickly puts her hand on [y/n]'s forehead, and pulls it away. Concerned.
"Crap, she has an extremely high fever," she states worriedly. "She's way passed what she should be. It's so hot, that she's becoming delerious." Winry rounds on me. "Alphonse, go and get a bag full of ice. Edward. Go and find a cooling pad. GO!"
I run frantically down the stairs, grabbing a bag full of ice as brother lazily gets the cooling pads. Racing back up, I skid to a stop in her room.
[y/n] was out of her sweats, and wearing a black sports bra similiar to Winry's, with a pair of grey shorts. I blush, feeling so very awkward standing there. Seeing so much skin on her. Winry yanks the ice from me and sets it on [y/n]'s forehead, and she hiccups. Brother follows with the cooling pads, and Winry sets it on [y/n]'s automail.
"Alphonse, you should lay with her," she states. "Your armor may be good for her, since it's so cold. Go."
I don't even hesitate to carefully lay down, and have her lean against my chesplate. [y/n] whimpers, and cuddles into me. Sniffling. Brother and Winry leave, and I carefully brush her hair from her eyes and face.
"You'll be okay..." I soothe quietly, rubbing her back and making her shiver. "I promise, you'll be okay, [y/n]. You'll be okay."
"I-I don't feel that way," she hiccups. "I...I..." I stop her from talking by not answering, and continuing to rub her back. She calms down, and sniffs hard.
Quietly, I begin to hum to her. A song that I didn't know, yet it seemed too familiar to me. Maybe mom would sing this to us, or I had a small amount of nostalgia. She relaxes at the sound of my voice, and I gently stroke her hair.
I soon realized what that song was. It wasn't a song that existed before now, but a song that came straight from my soul. It was a song about [y/n], that I didn't even have to know the words to. It was just how I felt around her, or maybe it was a tune that described just how amazing she truly was to me.
It didn't take long for her to doze off, snoring only slightly. It didn't even really qualify as a snore. It was more of semi-deep breaths, that were even. She was just too adorable.
Winry quietly makes her way in, and smiles softly at the sight of the two of us cuddling. She carefully sets another pack of ice down, then glances at me.
"Alphonse, do you know what this is a result of?" she inquires. I shake my head, not having a clue. "It's stress. She's worried about something, so much that it's effected her body."
"R-really?" I stumble, stunned and wanting to cry. I don't want her to be unhappy! I don't want her unhappiness to cause harm to her physical being! This was just too much for me. Too much for her. It just wasn't fair.
"Really. And it's not healthy," Winry concludes. "What she needs is tons of rest, because she hasn't been sleeping lately. She also needs something to prevent her stress. Maybe someone to talk to. And, she needs a lot of water. And I mean TONS."
"Yes ma'am," I nod, prepared to give anything just to make [y/n] feel better. "I will do anything to make her feel better. Anything."
"That's wonderful, Al," Winry nods grimly. "She's been out of shape ever since she got here, and I don't like it. It's hurting her."
Even though [y/n] is hurting on the inside, she continues to smile. I wonder, though. What was eating her away like this? What could possibly make her worry to the point of sickness? Could it be family matters? Her past? The homunculi?
The mere thought of that made me prepared to kill each and every one of those monster-freaks. Just to make it so that she would never have to worry again. So that she could sleep peacefully, because nobody deserves the nights alone. So that she wouldn't get sick.
I've never thought this way before, because I never had anything to fight for. Now that I do, I was going to fight for it until the end. Because what I'm fighting for, is [y/n]. And, as soon as possible, I was going to go and fight the homunculi until not one of them remained.
Of course, that would be in quite a while. Because from the angry shouting downstairs, I've reached the assumption that Brother's broken his automail again.
