BATON ROUGE, LOUISIANA
4:27 P.M. CST

Sheronda stood there with a scared look on her face.

This was her fault.

The girls' grandmother didn't want them to mix, in fear that something like this would happen too soon. It was way too soon.

"Mama, what's goin' on?" Kayden spoke up first. He was already annoyed, and uncovering a family secret didn't amuse him either. Instead of answering her oldest grandchild, she went straight to her room and shut the door, locking it behind her. She shook her head, panicking as she picked up her phone.

WAKE FOREST, NORTH CAROLINA
3:30 P.M. EST

"Elijah, baby? Bring mommy's phone!" The woman pulled her long hair out of the bun that sat on her neck. She had had a long day, and she thought about it as she heard the small sound of unsteady footsteps coming her way. "Thank you." She said, taking the phone and pulling her son onto her lap.

"Hello?" She put the phone on speaker and sat it on the arm of the couch, letting Elijah wrap his small arms around her neck and get comfortable.

"Aliyah, we got a problem." Aliyah sighed, biting her lip.

"I didn't know you had my number." Aliyah's voice broke, sighing softly.

"This is serious shit. They found the pictures in my closet. They know some' up."

"Sheronda, they are twelve! If you don't make some shit up—"

"I can't! I can't lie no more, I am tired." Aliyah hung her head.

"What do you expect me to do? What am I supposed to say?" Aliyah asked.

"You tell em the truth, or I will." Sheronda hung up the phone, leaving Aliyah with thoughts rushing through her head and the soft snores of her son.

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA

"Man, I don't see why you be doing shit for these boujee ass kids and you don't even see yo' own."

"Shut the fuck up, you know why I don't see my kids. And these ain't even boujee kids, mane they orphans. AYE, MOVE THAT TO THE LEFT A LIL BIT, NOONK!" He yelled to one of the workers holding the bottom of a fake Christmas tree.

"I'm just sayin, you could easily fly em out—"

"They think I'm dead, damn! Shut up and go do some useful shit!" The dude sucked his teeth and walked away.

"Hey, you ready for the physical therapist?" A woman in baby blue scrubs asked the man as she approached.

"Uh, yeah. Yeen gotta push me, I got it." He gripped the wheelchair, then his phone began to ring. He answered it quickly.

"Hello?"

"Kentrell..." Aaliyah's voice muttered through the speaker.

"Liyah...I ain't think I would eva hear yo voice again." A smile flooded his face.

"Yeah, I would love to reminisce but we got a big problem."

"Wassup?" He asked, sitting back a little.

"The girls know that they're connected to the boys. I don't think they know how, but ya mama wiggin' out. She wanna tell them the truth."
