The Letter

(Short Story)

I fell in love unexpectedly…

With him...

He’s a loner. He seldom speaks.

He’s not the type of a campus crush, but there’s something about him that makes me fall,

I just can’t tell what it is.

I woke up one day with this feeling inside me.

Yes, I love him then and I still do.

But it’s true that nothing is permanent in this world.

It’s not my feelings towards him that ended.  It’s him.

The guy with whom I fall in love is gone. He left me.

I went to every place where I always see him but he’s nowhere to be found.

I no longer have someone to talk to whenever I feel sad..

Maybe he left because of what I did.

I still remember that afternoon, that rainy afternoon when he gave that letter.

The letter that I never took a glance to see what’s  written on it? I gave it back right after he handed it to me.

Yes, I love him then, and I still do.

I still love him though I don’t even know if he’s ever coming back.

I know, it’s my fault that I never took the chance to let him know how I feel about him because I’m scared.

 I’m scared of being hurt; but, what about now?

I still ended up hurting.

And I’m living with what ifs. What if, I read that letter; would it have been different? Would he still leave?

It’s been 5 years since that day when I woke up and realize I love him, and I still do.

But what’s different about today? I received a letter, that same letter from 5 years ago.

“Hey! You’re irritating. Yes, you are. Don’t laugh at my letter. I’m not good in words. You know I don’t talk much.  You’re the only one making me talk a lot. I only write this to tell you I like you. No, scratch that, I love you. Tsk. I hate this. I’ve never done this before. Lucky you. Hahaha.

I don’t know if you feel the same way but I’m willing to wait. But don’t take too long. Hahaha.

By the way, I’m leaving the country after a week. But wait for me I’ll be back to persuade you. Maybe you’re not ready yet that’s why I’m giving you time.

Keep this letter. If you don’t you’re done!

Remember I’m not your ordinary guy. I keep my word.”
