Y/n POV
Everyone dashes into the classroom and runs to the lockdown corner. Well, what a great goddamn day. I walk Garroth over there and we huddle together on the floor. I can't tell him everything's going to be alright because we can't speak. I'm rubbing his shoulder trying to calm him down but I can't. Or maybe it's working. I can't tell in the dark. His breath is slowing down and so is his heartbeat. He's either shutting his body down and passing out or he's calming down. There's a 50/50 chance he'll pass out right now and blow our cover. How fun.
Someone's jiggling the handle on the door. It's locked so they walk away. There's cops guarding all exits right now and the door's right there. There's yelling and gunshots. Until it comes over the PA.
"We have caught the suspect. All clear."
"Don't go outside the classroom right now, kids. It's... um... a little messy." Ms. Bradbury says with a sad look on her face
"Did someone die?" Garroth asks crying
"We aren't sure yet but let's keep the officers in our prayers. I'm going to call the office to see if we're sending you home or if we're all staying here and just hanging out today." She says walking over to her phone. She dials the office and they say we're all just having a free day here inside. All day with Garroth and Aphmau.
"Are you okay, Garroth? Do you need any water or gum or something?" I ask letting go of him
"I- I'll be o-okay." Garroth says quietly
"If only I could just wipe that from your memory... I wish I could just wash away your pain." I whisper under my breath so that he can't hear me
"Alright everyone, your parents were notified of what happened and they are allowed to pick you up if they want to." Ms. Bradbury says to us
"Garroth and Y/n, Garroth's father is picking you both up and taking you to his house, pack up your things please." She says
"Okay." I say standing up while holding onto Garroth's arm and pulling him up
We walk into the hallway
"G-Garroth?" I stutter
"Yeah?" He says looking at me
"I'm moving up two grades... tomorrow. We'll still have lunch and recess together but we won't be in the same class." I say trembling
"W-What?! You're leaving me?!" He says as tears start to flood his eyes
"I don't want to, trust me, but everyone thinks I'm not being challenged enough in third grade. I can try to talk to Mrs. Bradbury but I don't know if it'll do anything." I say as a tear falls quickly down my cheek
"Try as hard as you can. I can't lose you." He says pulling me into a tight hug.
"You know I will. You know I will fight with all I've got to stay with you." I say hugging him back to a point where neither of us can breathe but we don't care. We could stand there in each other's arms holding each other tight for eternity.
"We should probably pack up." I say slowly letting go unwantingly
"Y-yeah. Probably." He says looking up at me
His eyes are still tear filled but they're starting to dry
We gather our things and meet up in the office where Garroth's father is nowhere to be found. He'll probably be here in ten minutes. Garroth and I sit in the office waiting in silence. It's painful. The tension in the air could be sliced with a knife.
Until I stand up.
"Can you please let Mrs. Bradbury know that I will not be skipping any grades? Thank you." I ask the secretary who works in the office
"Oh? Um yes of course. What's you name?" She says grabbing a stack of post it notes and a pen
"Y/n Lycan. Thank you again." I say
"You're welcome." She says as Garte walks into the school
He enters the office swiftly, not hesitating in the slightest bit.
"Hello, I'm here to pick up Y/n Lycan and my sons Garroth, Zane, and Vylad Ro'Meave. They're all here in the office but I need to sign them out. Where do I do that?" He says clearly and with confidence
He is one odd man.
"Right here, sir." The secretary says handing him a clipboard with a sign out sheet attached and a pen
He fills it out and then we leave. Just like that. No ID check, no call to my dad, nothing. Just a signature.
This is how kidnappings happen and how you get school shooters. And they wonder why we had a lockdown.
We walk out of the school together and I feel out of place. I know that's normal if you're not a part of this family but I feel more out of place than normal. We're in the car now after what seems like a twenty minute walk but it was only at most a minute. What's happening to me?
"Hello Y/n, I hope it's alright that I picked you up. Your parents didn't want to leave you here after that shooting." Garte says to me as he starts the car
"But what about Aaron? He goes here too..." I ask confused
"I- uh- was told not to pick him up yet. I'm sorry, he'll meet us back at work when your parents go on lunch break. Plus there's only so many seats in a car." He says starting to back up
"Oh. Yeah. True." I say looking down and tapping my fingers on the pad of my thumb
Nobody really speaks for the rest of the drive except for Garte swearing at bad drivers. Garroth is leaning his head against my shoulder and starting to fall asleep. I don't really mind though. To support his head I lean mine on his and I just close my eyes.
This seems like a perfect ending to a bad day. But it's not over yet.
But nothing else happens for the rest of the day. Until I watch the news.
"Today at Phoenix Drop Elementary School, there was a shooting. The criminal was caught at the scene and her name is Liberty Lane. She has admitted to going to the school to kill her daughter that she gave up for adoption and her new family and friends. Her house was investigated and officials say they found her other daughter that she didn't give up beaten, chained up, bleeding, and nearly dead. She is in the ICU at the nearest hospital and her chance of living is very slim. Genevieve Lane is in our thoughts and prayers." The news reporter says solemnly
"I should've said something. I didn't say anything. And now she's almost dead. She needed a new victim once I was gone. And I could hear Genevieve screaming for help but I didn't say anything." I sob tears streaming fast down my face
I thought I was being quiet but it comes out like a scream. Mom, Dad, Aaron, and Melissa come running trying to see what's wrong. They'll never understand. Even if they tried.

A/n
Sooo... that was... one hell of a chapter. I'm probably going to update every Tuesday and Thursday (except for this Thursday cause I don't have school) because my sister has this jump rope club before school and I get to school at 7 instead of 7:45 on those days. Sorry if it seems like a really over dramatic chapter, I couldn't help myself, I had to connect the shooter to Y/n somehow. Welp, bye!
