In Greek myths, there is a story about how my natural enemy was created. The Creepy Crawly Death Dealers themselves, spiders. Warning, there's a bit of...uncomfortable thoughts in this myth.

It all began in the city of Lydia, where a young girl named Arachne was known for weaving beautiful tapestries. Everyone would come and watch her work as her nimble fingers created works of art.

There was one teeny tiny problem though, she didn't give thanks to Athena, who was known to give the gift of crafts and weaving.

People would go to her and say, "Clearly, Athena has blessed you! And she would just look at them and say, "Yeah, sure. The next tapestry you buy will be worth 10 bucks extra."

Of course Athena didn't take too kindly to that, so she disguised herself as an old women and went to Arachne's little shop. She complimented her craftsman ship and mentioned Athena again.

Arachne looked at her like she was an idiot. "Okay, listen here lady! Athena wishes she had this much skill! Heck, If she ever came I bet she would beg me to teach her!" She said full of pride, a crowd surrounding them now.

Athena was done with this brat, so she revealed herself as the kick-butt strategy goddess she was. "Alright then you spoiled brat, let's settle this the old-fashioned way."

Arachne gulped as she realized she just dissed a war goddess in the face. "You're going to fight me?"

"What? No. We shall settle this in the form of a weave-off!" Athena declared as she made a wave of her hand. A shimmering loom appeared next to Arachne's as she continued to say, "These people shall be impartial judges to decide who is the better weaver. We shall both create a tapestry that resembles the gods. Do you reject this challenge, girl?"

Realizing she had no other choice, Arachne accepted, and off they went! Both of them working as hard as they could to make a masterpiece. When they were done, they both revealed their finished works.

Athena made a tapestry showing the best moments of the gods, the stuff they gave to humans, the battles they helped win, but Arachne went in another direction. Her's was filled with all the foolish things the gods had done. Zeus getting with every girl, Apollo's lovers becoming plants, even Athena having a child from a handkerchief.

Athena was revolted by what she saw, but she couldn't argue that it was well crafted. The crowd voted and declared that the goddess had made the best tapestry (cause who could say no to a goddess of Wisdom and War Strategy?).

Ashamed that she had lost, Arachne got some of the strings and tried to take herself out. Athena noticed her attempt and casted a spell to stop her from dying. Her nimble fingers turned into long spindly legs and her body shrank until she was tiny with many eyes. She had become the first spider.

"Foolish girl, you shall weave your tapestry for all of eternity, and so will all of your children," The goddess vowed as she vanished into thin air.

And that's how the first Creepy Crawly Death Dealer-I mean spider-was made!
