Mack
We finished up the late shift of the diner. After most of the things finished, the guys left. I told them I would finish cleaning up. As I cleaned up, Paige came inside.
"Inferior man on the totem pole, huh?" she asked me.
"Well, we all got to be something, now don't we?" I smirked as she rolled her eyes.
"I'll help you, then we can get out of here," she said, giving me a kiss before heading to the back. I finished busing the tables as I heard the bell chimed.
"Sorry, buddy, we're closed," I said as I loaded dishes into a container.

I looked up to see two guys in masks pointing guns at me.
"What the?"
Bam!
I felt something hit my arm.
Bam!
I felt a pain sear through my leg as I screamed. I dropped as they heard a commotion from the back as they took off.
"Mack?" Paige asked with confusion.
I saw blood as I screamed.
"Oh, my God! Mack!" She ran over to me as I tried to stop the blood. Then everything went black.
Paige
I heard what sounded like fireworks from the back. I walked out to the front to find Mack on the floor and screamed as I ran over to him.
Someone shot him, and there was so much blood. I tried to put pressure on it as I called 911. I knew he hated hospitals, but I refuse to let him die. Not now, never.
The ambulance arrived along with the police. The paramedics came and picked Mack up, taking him to the hospital while the police questioned me. Bob, Miguel, Martin, and Ian arrived as the police talked to me.
They saw the police then saw me with them as they saw the blood. Martin stayed to speak to the officers while Bob and the others took me to the hospital. My mind was racing. All I wanted to know was if Mack was okay.
We got there and had to wait. Of course, I lied and told the hospital I was Mack's fiancée. With no family, I needed answers.
I sat in the waiting room, waiting. The girls showed up and comforted me. I still had Mack's blood on me. Brenda left with Gertie to get me some clothes while Ruth took me to the bathroom to clean the blood off me.
"He's going to be okay," I said as I scrubbed the blood off of my hands.
"Paige," Ruth said.
"I refuse to believe this is it. Mack is tough. He will make it," I said.
She looked at me as I finished washing up. Brenda and Gertie arrived with a change of clothes. I changed and emerged from the bathroom. They all looked at me.
"I'm fine."
"Paige, it's okay," Bob said to me.
"Bob, I told you, I'm fine. Now excuse me," I said as I walked past them. I took a seat and waited. I refuse to give up hope. Because that's all, I had.
Mack
I woke up and looked around. Where the hell was I? The last thing I knew, I was in the diner. Then I saw mom and dad. I walked towards them.
"Don't tell me I'm dead," I said to them.
"No," mom smiled.
"Oh, thank God, because I got a woman waiting for me," I said with relief.
"It's not your time yet, son. You need to go back. Something awaits you later on," dad told me.
What the? I thought to myself.
Then the next thing I knew, I woke up startled.
"Mack?" Someone exclaimed.
"Where am I?" I looked around, confused.
"The hospital," Paige said to me.
"What?"
No, I need to get out of here. I started moving things away as they subdued me. I hated hospitals. People die.
Once they calm me down with some lovely drugs, might I add, I was flying high as a kite.
Paige sat down and breathed.
I would ask her later before ripping into her for putting me here. Night, night.
I woke up and looked around. Christ, I thought this was a freakish nightmare. On top of it, I felt like hell. My arm and leg hurt.
"Mack?"
I looked at Paige with irritation.
"I know you hate hospitals, but they shot you," she explained.
I looked at her.
"Remind me to find the assholes that did this and beat the hell out of them when I get out," I said.
"Well, first you need to heal, then you can go hunt them down," she said with a look. I gave her one back. I would not win this one.
"Fine. This doesn't mean I concede to you," I said in no uncertain terms.
"No, of course not," she said. I rolled my eyes; smart-ass.
Lucky me, I got stuck in the hospital for a week with lousy food. Well, if a hospital doesn't kill you, the food will. Bob brought me food, and yeah, no, thank you. I refuse to die from Bob's cooking. It's not today, dipwad, not today.
Paige, now she was smart. She brought me proper food. The nurses tried to tell me I'm not allowed to have it. I told them to stick it. I'm the patient and decide what's best for me.
After a week of fighting with the nurses and doctors, it relieved them to release me. That makes two of us. If I ever end up back here, shoot me. Don't because that hurts like a bitch.
Paige brought me home with help from the guys. Bob got a little handy with me, and I smacked him. Yeah, no, thank you. He told me he was trying to help me. I told him he was full of shit. The only one I wanted to maltreat me was Paige. This reminds me, when I get better, I was going to manhandle her Mack style.
Yeah, one day, I would find the assholes that did this, and they would wish they never step foot into the diner.
