Mack
I told Paige to dress for our date. I picked her up, and we got into the car. She looked at the back seat and said, "Let me guess, fishing?"
"Well, you're a smart cookie. I don't think I could go out with someone flighty," I smiled as Paige gave me a look and shook her head.
I drove us to the pier, and we got out of the car as I grabbed the poles and tackle box. I handed her a plastic container.
"Try not to drop them, or you will piss the fish off that you destroyed their food," I said as she rolled her eyes.
We walked onto the dock, and I set the poles down. Then I set everything up. I took the container and picked out the fattest worm and placed it on the hook. I handed her the pole, and she refused it. She picked up the other pole and grabbed a worm out of the container, wrapping it around the hook.
Then I watched her cast the line into the water. Well, damn.
I cast my line into the water. "Where did you learn to do that?" I asked her.
"My dad taught me. He used to take me fishing. Said girls did not differ from boys, and we should all learn to do things," she said.
"Smart man," I said as I held my pole.
"Yeah, I miss him," she said as I looked at her sideways. "He passed away when I was younger."
I looked at her as she continued to fish.
"And your mom?"
"I never knew her. She died shortly after I was born. Leaving my father to raise my older brother and me. When my father died, my brother took over raising me," she said, not flinching.
"You seem hopeful," I said to her.
"If it's anything I learned, it's that bad things happen to good people. It's what you do with it that shapes which it means you to be. My dad was a good man. He raised my brother and me the way he felt was best," she said.
That was the thing about Paige. Life dealt her wrong hands, but she never let it get her down. Yep, I definitely was falling for her. Now it was time to prove it.
I set my pole down and walked over to her. She turned to me, and I pulled her to me as I kissed her.
She kissed me back as it turned passionate. To the point, she let go of the pole, and the damn fish pulled it into the river.
We stopped and watched it pulled away and dragged under. I rolled my eyes as Paige laughed.
"Well, the fish had other ideas. Note to self, you're not to have one of my fishing poles. You need to get your own," I said as she laughed and I pulled her into a kiss. We're going to have to work on her fishing techniques.
Once we finished kissing, we shared one pole and ended up catching more fish. There's dinner.
After our fishing expedition, I mourned the loss of my fishing poles. Paige told me she would replace it. I told her I was holding her to it. Never let go of a man's fishing pole. I know you're all thinking of the other pole, you unholy people-shame on each of you for thinking unholy thoughts.
We went back to my place so I could clean them. I taught Paige so she would know how to clean them one day. She was pretty good at this.
"You know, you got a real knack for this. I'll keep you," I said, causing Paige to slice her finger. Well, that shouldn't have happened.
She yelped, and I turned on the faucet. I took her hand and cleaned the wound, then grabbed the first aid kit. I turned off the faucet and fixed up her finger.
"A simple okay would have been fine. You didn't need to injure yourself," I said as I finished dressing the wound.
"It's that I wasn't expecting that," she said as I held her hand.
I looked at her as she looked back at me.
"I've never met a woman like you. You do something to me, I've never felt," I said to her.
She looked at me and smiled.
"Since my original plan isn't working, let's try something more orthodox, will we?"
She nodded as she bit her bottom lip.
"Paige, will you be my girl? I can't promise that things will bore because they won't. What I can promise is that it will be you and me against the world, and I will love you with my entire being," I said.
"Y-you love me?" She asked, a bit surprised.
I looked at her. I had fallen in love with Paige.
"I would like to think so," I said as I smiled, and a smile curled upon her lips. "What do you say? Will you be my girl?"
"I thought you would never ask," she smiled as I pulled her to me, causing us to fall onto the floor. I looked at her, "Well, you've fallen for me, Paige."
"you're right," she said with a coy look as I pulled her into a kiss. I had fallen in love with Paige Moore, and one day I would make her my wife. For now, I was happy she was mine.
After dinner, we sat on the couch, and I wrapped my arms around her as we watched Dawson's Creek. It turns out she was as big of a fan of the damn show as I was.
"I prefer her with Pacey," she said.
"Why's that?" I asked her.
"Because every girl should fall in love with the guy they least expect too. Plus, they have mega chemistry," she smiled.
"Sounds like another couple, I know," I smirked as she laughed.
Here's my theory, when you meet the one, you know it. The person draws you to them. They make you look at things differently than you did. They make you want to be better than before. No one says you have to date forever to know how you feel. Sometimes it takes a simple thing as fishing to see why they are the ones. Sometimes simple is better.
