The two together were pretty much a power couple the following weeks. Spending most of the days together, some nights, going on little spontaneous dates whenever they could squeeze in the time. Everything had been going... perfectly. They had become one of those couples that many were typically jealous of. There was no bickering, no pointless fighting, they were honest with one another.
Well, they were honest about some things. Ethan finally told the truth about his internship and Reese was still lagging on telling him about her recent ex-boyfriend popping up in her text messages. Which was fine or whatever because she wasn't talking to him, but it was something that needed to be said.
Reese locked her phone as she headed out of her final class of the day, walking past a few of her colleagues as she offered a quick wave to them.
As she walking out towards the parking lot, her phone began to vibrate. She pulled it out of her pocket and saw an incoming phone call.
"What the..." she murmured, keeping her pace as she blinked down at her phone.
A part of her knew that this was trouble but another part of her wanted to know why he was so persistent. As much as she didn't want to admit it, Tucker had become a part of her life. He was around for a long time, longer than she ever thought he'd be.
She held her breath as she stopped her momentum and stood in the middle of the walkway, swiping her thumb across the phone and pressing it to her ear.
Tucker was the first to respond, "Reese?"
She exhaled into the line, "Uh, what's up?"
"Holy shit," he snickered, "I really didn't think you would pick up."
"Do you need something?"
"I just wanted to see how you were doing?" he sighed, a long pause before speaking again, "You just got out of your education class, right?"
She mumbled under her breath a couple of cuss words before shutting her eyes. Of course, he knew her schedule. They had made their schedules together in November when they were still very much dating. They did their best to pair their classes up with one another so they would be able to see one another after.
"Yes," she hissed, "I'm actually meeting someone right now so is there anything you needed or... something?"
"Don't tell me it's Ethan."
"Why does that matter?" she asked as she headed towards the parking structure, lanyard in hand and fingers clicking the unlock button.
Her car made a small chirp as she turned her focus to the flashing vehicle before her. And that's when she saw it.
"Wait, I think I see you," Tucker muttered as he ended the call.
Reese couldn't even think to speak as she stared dead ahead at her car. Tucker's words never processed as she completely ignored what he had said on the other line. The windshield held an enormous crack that had spiderwebbed all across the glass. The passenger side window had been smashed and the glass was scattered all along the parking space.
"My c-car..." She could barely utter another syllable before Tucker ran up to her side. He was there in a blink of an eye as he rested his hand on her shoulder.
"What the fuck?" he growled angrily, "Who did this?"
"I-I... I don't." She mouthed as she stared ahead at her car.
Tucker reached to grab the phone that she still had pressed up against her cheek and threw it in his pocket, walking over to the vandalized car, "Reese, you got to talk to me here."
"Tucker, I-" she shook her head and finally took a couple of steps forward, "I have no clue who did this."
"They really got a lot of nerve to do this," he shook his head, running his finger along the windshield. "Are you okay?"
"Who do I even call?" she muttered out towards him, "There's glass... everywhere. Can I- can I drive home still?"
"No," he reprimanded, "There's glass all over the seat you'll cut yourself. You need to call the police, file a report."
"Jesus Christ," she whispered, closing her eyes and throwing her head back. "I... Tucker."
"Hey, it's okay," he said, immediately turning his attention away from her damaged car and setting his gaze towards her, "Reese."
"What did I do?" she choked out, "Damn it, Tucker."
Tucker placed his arms around her shoulders and pulled her close, "You'll be okay, want me to call 911?"
Immediately she fell into his grasp, seeking comfort from the shock of her vandalized vehicle. She hesitated to rest her head, just right underneath his chest from his staggering height. Reese shut her eyes again and almost felt the need to cry, words getting caught in her throat that she was afraid to let go. Almost painfully scratching their way up, stuck on the tip of her tongue as she relished in Tucker's soft embrace.
A vibration caused the two to pull away quickly as the rumble continued on. Tucker reached for his pocket and pulled out Reese's phone that he had tucked away in her state of shock.
Reese raised a brow as she watched Tucker handle her phone in the palm of his hand. A contact photo of Ethan appeared on the screen, giving a boyish smile at the camera. An innocent and goofy grin painted across the screen as she eyes his name at the top.
"Speak of the devil," Tucker chortled, staring at the screen.
She shook her head and grabbed her phone from his grasp, "Hey."
Tucker shook his head and decided to inspect the car out a bit more.
"Oh, you're almost here?" she said with a shaky tone, "Yeah, I'm okay, just... I'll see you when you get here." She pulled the phone away from her and ended the call, looking back over at an occupied Tucker.
"Your knight and shining armor coming?"
"Shut up."
"Is he?"
"Please don't do this."
Tucker huffed, "Figures."
"Do not start this with me, Tucker. You are the one who jumped into a relationship after we broke up, making yourself exclusive on Instagram and whatever."
He lifted a brow, "You're kidding, right? You slept with the guy."
"You left me way before our relationship ended."
