(Hikaru's POV)

I didn't know how to react. What am I supposed to do in this situation? Am I supposed to do anything? What's going in, is there more to this I don't know about?

Questions flooded my mind as my brother drove me home.

"Why are you so mad, Hikaru? What happened back there?" Kaoru asked me.

"I walked in to grab my jacket..." I paused, not really sure how to put my answer, "...Kyouya was there."

"Why was he there?" he asked, slowing down the car a little.

"... He was... They... Him and Peyton... They where..." I was at a loss for words, and couldn't finish, but I guess I didn't have to.

"They were kissing, weren't they."

"How do you-"

He cut me off. He then explained to me exactly what he had heard in the halls, when he heard the two talking. He also told me what she did to him. With every word I just got even more furious.

"If anything, I think it's Kyouya's fault for coming onto her like that."

"That doesn't make her any less guilty, in my book."

Kaoru was silent for a while before speaking up again, "Where you two ever even a real couple?"

I answered unsurely, "...Maybe..."

I called her that night, like I had promised. Wanting answers.

No one picked up.

-------------------

The weekend seemed to go by ever so slowly as I stayed home. I didn't really do anything those days besides think about... just everything! More and more questions just kept rising to the surface.

Had this been why she only said, 'Maybe?'

Monday soon rolled by again and, expecting Peyton to just skip school like she normally did, I actually went.

That was my first mistake. She came to school, and she avoided everyone, like a plague.

Lunch was the first time I actually noticed her, and the fact that she had not stayed home. Most days, she would sit between me and my brother, but today she went outside. Haruhi was the one who first noticed, and had pointed it out to all of us. I watched her leave the back doors, she didn't even bring a lunch with her, just left. I assumed she had actually left school, until Kyouya grabbed me and dragged me by the arm to follow her. I tried to struggle, but he's stronger than me, and no one in the world could persuade Kyouya to do anything, including letting me go, after he set his mind to do something.

We found Peyton on the side of the school, reading what looked like a pamphlet of some kind, which she crumpled into a ball as soon as she noticed us walk up to her.

Kyouya started the conversation with, "I'm sorry... To both of you."

"I said, stop saying that," Peyton croaked out, as if about to break into tears. "But Hikaru..." she looked up at me, with a glossed over shine in her eyes, "I truly am... sorry."

"Is this what you meant by, 'Maybe?'" I just had to know. She gave a slight nod of the head as a tear slid down her face. Kyouya knelt down and tried to wipe it away, but he soon jumped back as he heard the familiar click of a switchblade.

"Don't touch me," she shook her head as she stared at the grass, letting more tears escape. We were all scared, one way or another.

"Peyton, look at me," I ordered, harsher than I wanted to, "Do you have any feelings for me at all?"

"I love you... But like I would a brother... I just... can't..." She mumbled out, loosening her grip on the knife in hand. Before she knew it, I had sat down next to her, and given her a forgiving hug. "Are you mad at me?" she sobbed out.

"No, I'm not mad... I was, but... Not anymore."

"I'm sorry-"

"It's okay," I hushed her, hugging her tightly. It almost seemed as though she was taking the whole situation out in herself more than I could ever take out in her. I just couldn't let that happen... Not to my sister.

We let go, remembering that Kyouya was still there. She stood up and went to him.

"Are you gonna hit me?" he asked. Yep. She gave him a good slap across the face before giving him a hug too. I didn't want to leave, but I knew it would be best, so I want back to the cafeteria.

(Peyton's POV)

"So now what... and OW!"

I giggled a little at this, still getting over done tears, "Kyouya, I have to tell you something," I told him.

"Alright," he seemed to be both happy and nervous. I uncrumpled the paper I had in my pocket. This is it... I have to tell him. I have to tell someone.

"What is that?" he asked, as I pulled the paper out. "Is that... for a collage scholarship?"

"Yeah," I admitted, looking down.

"Cool... When you going, after senior year?" he wondered aloud.

"I'm leaving..." I started crying again, again crumpling the paper in my hands as my grip tightened, "Tomorrow."

Tomorrow...

Yep, she's headed off to collage at the age of 16... It could happen!

So... she's gonna end up with Kyouya I guess, wasn't planing on that, but hey!
