January, 10th.
I rolled over I forgot to close my curtain last night so the bright sun was shining in my face. I sat up and rubbed my eyes.
It was 11am. Which means it's the end of third period. On January 10th.
I sat at the edge of my bed trying to get myself up. I didn't want to move, not today, diffidently not today.
I grabbed my phone off my side table and made my way down stairs.
My dad was sitting in the kitchen while my brother was standing by the fridge looking threw it.
" What are you doing home? " my dad asked, " I thought you already walked to school. "
" I never go to school today. " I said with a straight face and no emotion, I walked over to the kettle and turned it on so I could make myself a tea.
" What day is so important that you don't go to school on this day? " Dale asked.
" It's the 10th of January you should know what happened on this day. " I said as I poured my tea.
" I'll be out the whole day like normal. " I sighed as I walked back up stairs to my room.
They never care to remember today.
I got dressed after finishing my tea. I wasn't in the mood to move fast. I would rather be a sloth than move like a cheetah.
I walked back down stairs grabbed my jacket and put on my boots.
" I'm leaving! " I yelled.
They didn't answer.
I drove to the look out point, I come here every year on this day. I just sit on the railing and look out at the city. When I look out it's like all time stops for hours, time just fades away slowly into nothing. Before I know it, it will be night and then I'm on my way home like today didn't happen, I'll wake up tomorrow morning and this day will just be a blink, nothing, but... a memory.
I sat down on the railing and look out at the city. The cold wind hits my back making me shiver, but I didn't mind.
" Hey. " I turned around to see Grayson.
" What are you doing here? " I asked, no one knows about this spot other than Rosie and Wyatt.
" Well, you never miss school, so I got worried. I asked Rosie and Wyatt where you were and they said you would be here. " Grayson paused and shuffled forwards a little bit, " I asked why, but they said it wasn't their right to say and to ask you. "
I nodded, "Yeah. "
Grayson walked over and sat down on the railing beside me.
" So why is the perfect attendance, always on time Emily Watson, look so sad? " Grayson asked.
