I was so angry at Dimitri after seeing him that I wasn't watching where I was going and ran into Adrian. This was the first time I had done this at the Royal Court, but the third time in total.
"Sorry," I mumbled.

"Hey, what's up? Your aura's all messed up. Did you see your brother?" asked Adrian, grabbing me by my arms.
"Yea, I saw him. He's acting like Romeo was when he found out he got banished from Verona," I grumbled.

"Like a woman?" guessed Adrian.

"Like a whiny brat," I added.
"Sorry to hear that. I'm going to the bar, did you want to get a drink too?" offered Adrian.

"I'm not supposed to drink on the job," I sighed.

"I won't tell," smiled Adrian, his eyes glittering.
"No, I know you won't, but the bartender will," I laughed.

"Are you ever not on the job?" asked Adrian, cocking his head to one side looking at me.

"No, this is a full time 24/7, 365 day job. I'm not supposed to get breaks," I explained.

"Oh, well that sucks," commented Adrian with a laugh.

"No, it actually doesn't. I like doing what I do," I smiled.

Adrian shrugged, "Well I'm getting a drink, so come along."

On the way to the bar we ran into Rose.

"Is everything okay?" asked Adrian studying her, concerned.

"Dimitri won't see me!" she said agitated.

"Yea, he's acting like an idiot," I said dryly, "Get used to it. He's going to stay that way for a while."

"What?! They let you see him?!" exclaimed Rose.

"Well no one really stopped me, but I really didn't get anywhere with him. He's so stubborn," I shrugged.

I invaded her thoughts again. Nothing was really making sense, I only felt her pain and confusion and then I heard Lissa. I always happened to pick the perfect time to invade her thoughts. Lissa told Rose to come down to the courtyard.
"Look, I'm going to just go, okay? I'll be fine in a while," lied Rose.

"Sure, sure," nodded Adrian, he didn't look happy.

With that Rose took off and ran straight down to the courtyard.

"Go watch her will you? I want you to tell me where she's gone to. I'll be in the bar, I'll be easy for you to find, so don't worry about me," Adrian grumbled.

"Of course," I nodded and followed Rose swiftly to the courtyard.

In the courtyard there was a large crowd gathered around the edges. In the middle was Hans, a couple Moroi whom I didn't recognize or care to know about and Dimitri. The sun was bright, providing one piece of evidence that he was a Strigoi anymore, since he wasn't burning up, but the stupid Moroi told him to stare at the sun. Human, Moroi or dhampir, no one could stare at the sun without getting some kind of eye damage like cataract or blindness. They also proceeded to stab/cut him with a stake; it made my stomach queasy watching him bleed. After a while, they opened it up to the gallery. Everyone took chances asking him questions and then Rose had to go and ruin everything and push Dimitri to his limits. A little kid asked a couple questions, it was cute, but Rose pushed it too far. I was disgusted, so I slipped away, back to Adrian.
He was staring moodily at his drink, which had remained untouched since the bartender had given it to him.
"I should have known this would happen," he growled, when I sat down beside him.

"Do you really think she's just going to go back on her promise after all that you've done for her?" I said raising my eyebrow.
"Yes, I can see it in her eyes when we're together. Her affection is restrained, like she can't love anyone more than that cradle robber," snarled Adrian.
I was offended that Adrian had called Dimitri a cradle robber, but in a sense, he was right. In another, I didn't want to make Adrian more upset than he already was, so I just let it go. Adrian sighed, picked up his glass, and drained it in one.

"Let's go back to my room and play cards. There's nothing here for us to do now," Adrian said standing.

I nodded and followed him back to his room.
