The Beginning of the End (Percy Jackson/ Avengers Crossover)

Amber

Suddenly, are you here a whizzing sound. I jump to the left as a bronze knife shoots over my shoulder. I jerk it up and continue after the monster that has Joss, my sister.

"No! Stop! You're going to hurt yourself! Stop!" I hear a distant female voice shout, but I keep running. This monster is what killed Roxi! And I won't let it kill Jocelyn.

When I'm around fifty feet away from the monster, I hurl the knife and it sinks deep into the monster's chest. "Jocelyn!"

She runs to me crying. "Amber, Roxi is dead!" Even though I witnessed her death, hearing it out loud hits me like a punch.

"I know. Shhh." I say soothingly. Joss sobs into my shirt. "You're safe," I tell her.

"But Roxi isn't! Today was her birthday! She was only seven, Amber!"

I watch her, trying to remain calm. "Joss," I say, "we have to get out of here. Okay? Someone might of seen us."

"I don't know why, but I have a feeling no one should of seen that," says Joss, only eleven. I'm fifteen. And Roxi was seven.... I shut my eyes but immediately the image of Roxi, dead, pops into my mind. But before that, the image of Gytano, my best friend, also lying on the ground, dead, gets into my mind. I feel like punching a tree, but I don't want to lose my control in front of Jocelyn, so I just stand there with my eyes shut.

'Amber?" Jocelyn sniffs.

"Hold on a second Joss. I'm trying to think," I tell her.

A few seconds later, Joss is at it again. "Amber!" she exclaims urgently.

"What?"

She points silently to four people watching us... on flying horses. "What the @&$# do you want," my voice comes out cool and calm. They just stare. I grab Joss's shoulder, turn her around, and start walking away. Must be some of Thor's friends from Asgaurd.

"Wait!" the smallest one calls as she dismounts from her Pegasus and walks over. "I'm Ella."

"Nice to meet you. Goodbye." Joss and I start walking away.

Ella moves with the speed of a snake. "We need to speak to you."

"And I need 4,000 dollars" I respond, "but that doesn't mean I'm going to get it." I choke down my tears for Roxi and clear my throat.

"I can give you 4,000 dollars," Ella says.

I glare at her. "Now please excuse us," I say as I take Joss by the hand and start walking, again, and nobody follows.
