It bugged her. It really, really bugged her; although, what didn't bug Jezebel? The entire cast was used to her prissy attitude towards everything, but the woman found no fault in it. If her dress felt even the slightest bit too tight here or too loose there or if the design wasn't flattering enough to her figure, it should be corrected, shouldn't it? If those idiot stagehands kept messing up her concentration, she should chew them out, shouldn't she? If some girl magically shows up and starts living with the man she's been pining after since coming to this place, she should be upset, shouldn't she?
Y/N was always at practice with Chess, taking up all his time and attention as he taught her how to assist him properly while also helping out with little chores that would make the other staff members' lives easier. It was hard not to scoff when she made mistakes, though, Chester, being the kind soul that he is, always reassured her with a pat on the shoulder and a charming smile. She followed the jester around like a puppy. How shameful, she thought. Even she gave the man his space, but perhaps, he enjoys that? The doting audience always put a smile on his face. Perhaps, she should've moved in sooner, been one of his passing flings which sometimes occurred during their extensive travels. She never did, since they were working together, and she desired much more than a single night in his trailer.
So, while she appeared bossy and snooty to everyone else, she made it quite apparent that he was the acceptation. He entertained her, and thus, they became close as the spectacular duo of Chester the Fantastical Jester and his assistant Jezebel the Darling Clown. The circus was fun at first, especially with his eyes and attention on her. It wasn't until recently she's begun to resent it. These people were incompetent. She is a star! Much greater than most here!
At least, she thought as much. She often got in fights with Cecilia over this ideal. The only rival she had for the top spot is Chester, but she didn't mind that. It's what made them such a perfect pair, though when suggesting they leave the circus to make it big elsewhere, he refused, having fallen in love with life he lead here. He wouldn't trade it for the world. She could've left, said who needs him and struck out on her own, become the shining star she knew she was, however, she could not leave him. There'll be other men, she'd tell herself, but look at him, just look at him. There was no one more perfect, more kind and caring or carefree. He was no ordinary star, but a sun, pulling her in with his brightness.
So she stayed, growing lazier to the point of skipping rehearsals and feigning illnesses to get out of shows. It's no wonder he sought a replacement. That was her fault... So she was going to remedy it. It started with returning to rehearsals. It was enough to earn a few snide comments from the others along the lines of, "Oh, so she does care to show up" or "Chester must've finally chewed her out."
