Stefan had gone to the hospital everyday for two months.
Ambrose had finally found someone he could count on, someone who would be there.

"Another book Stefan?"
Ambrose chuckled as the Salvatore tossed him "Wuthering Heights."
"Maybe if you didn't finish novels in the span of twenty four hours."
Stefan smirked sitting on Ambrose's bed, the boy laughing as he did so.
"I'm a fast reader."
Ambrose shrugged.
Stefan rolled his eyes playfully.
The two sat in comfortable silence as Ambrose let his thoughts wander.
"It's lonely when you leave."
He told Stefan quietly a small cough escaping his throat.
"I can hear people walking down the halls, some running. Sometimes I can hear people crying, laughing, screaming. It's crazy how in every room someone could be dying, giving life, both."
Stefan watched Ambrose with a small smile on his lips.
"What?"
Ambrose laughed as Stefan grinned.
"What?"
Stefan asked right back raising an eyebrow.
"What are you staring at?"
Ambrose chuckled.
"You. You're so perfect."
"I'm dying."
Ambrose corrected with a soft smile still on his face, his voice quiet.
"And you're still perfect."
Stefan whispered softly resting his hand on top of Ambrose's.
Brody grinned and despite the black circles under his eyes, his smile lit up the room.

Stefan had went and got food from the grill and brought it back to the hospital.
"So what are you gonna do later?"
Ambrose asked with a smile.
"Probably just go home with my brother."
Stefan shrugged.
"Oh yeah the asshole?"
Stefan snorted as Ambrose chuckled.
"Yeah the asshole."
The two laughed sitting in comfortable silence.
"Why do you keep coming?"
Ambrose asked suddenly looking at Stefan.
"What do you mean?"
Stefan rose an eyebrow staring back at the boy.
"I mean you didn't know me at first, so why did you come back?"
Stefan thought for a moments as Ambrose watched him intently.
"I guess I just knew I cared about you."
