When the bell rang, I retreated to the library, so the bullies wouldn't bother me. Their presence was quite annoying, and it stopped me from getting much work done. No one took notice of me in the hallways, but once I entered the library, the librarian greeted me with a smile.
"Yusuki! I know you're always busy with your work, but could you help me with these books?"
I would usually take down an offer that got in the way of my academics, but Mrs. Rikona was the only one in the school who showed me affection. "Of course, Mrs. Rikona," I smiled at her and grabbed some books. As we were putting some books away, Mrs. Rikona went to her office to organize some papers. When I finished, I walked to a nearby table to start my Algebra homework. I stopped paying attention to the world by then.
"Yusuki Nanami. I can't say I'm shocked to see you here."
I cringed as I quickly recognized the voice. I chose to ignore Yui. I didn't want to waste more time. "Hey, slut! Look at me when I'm talking to you," Yui pulled my hair so our eyes could meet. I didn't show any hurt or sadness. There was no point in doing so. "Hello, Yui," I mumbled. A smirk formed on her plastic face.
"What homework are you doing," she asked and took my papers. I sat back down in my chair. "Hmm. Algebra. I could use someone to copy off of," she cackled like the witch she is. I snatched my homework back, "in your dreams, Yui. Go find one of your lap dogs to do it for you." Her painted face scrunched up into a scowl. It was not a pretty sight.
"How dare you! Take that back or-" Yui was cut off when Mrs. Rikona tapped her shoulder.
"I hope you didn't forget this is a library, Yui. You must remember to restrain your yapping. It only adds on to your personality of a mindless chihuahua," Mrs. Rikona glared at Yui, but didn't forget to smile.
Yui stood there, shocked. She closed her mouth and scurried away. Mrs. Rikona looked back at me, "Why didn't you call me over? I could've ended that conversation earlier." She sadly smiled at me and put a cookie in front of my books. "Don't forget to take a break," she winked at me and walked away. I looked back down and grabbed the cookie. I took a bite.
It was still warm.
