"Are you serious? You are moving again?” Groupie asked wide eyed and Pers nodded solemnly.
“And you are moving next week?” Malia asked and she nodded once again.
“I can’t believe this, I thought you said you weren’t going to move again?” groupie asked and she nearly cried.
She had thought the same, after all it was almost two years and they had not moved, she thought this was it, this was going to be permanent, oh how wrong she had been.
“Wow” Malia said before hugging her. They were seated at the cafeteria during lunch hour and Pers had figured this was the best time to tell them, except the person she expected to be more hurt was just ignoring her.
It hurt her as she looked at him, he was busy eating as if she had not just dropped a bombshell, sure he should be upset that she had not told him first but it was unnerving how he was acting.Malia and groupie looked from him to her and cleared their throats as if to jeer him out of his mind.
“Ethan?” she called and he just looked straight ahead, as if she wasn’t there.“Say something Ethan?” she cried out and he turned sharply to face her, his nose ring dangling dangerously.
“What do you want me to say uhn? That I’m not upset, that I’m not sad, that it’s okay? You’re leaving and that’s not okay and its next week, so if you want to leave so badly just leave already!” He shouted before standing up and storming angrily out of the cafeteria.
“Well that was explosive,” groupie said and Malia turned to face him with a scowl, Pers stood up to follow Ethan and Malia held her back by the shoulder.
“Let him be,” Malia said to Pers and she nodded, she had expected something but she had not expected this. He seemed terribly upset that she was leaving and she understood him but he acted as if she was also not going to miss him.
After all she was the one leaving. Pers blamed movies for all this; after all they never showed the pain of the one that was leaving, only the ones that were left behind.
“It’s just not fair, I don’t want to go,” Pers said as a few tears slipped from her eyes, it tore Malia up to see those tears and even groupie felt something.
“I know but you can’t stay behind,” Malia said as she let out a deep breath. “I thought you were kidding when you said you guys moved a lot, you’ve been here for like what, two years?” Pers nodded before she continued, “I’m so sorry baby” she side hugged her.
“It’s okay” groupie said side hugging her too, Pers just cried harder, she hated this. Moving, making new friends and then having them yanked away from her as soon as she got attached. It was like the universe hated her and everything she did, trying to punish her for no reason and right now she could not get the image out of her head.
The hurt look on Ethan’s face when she broke the news to him, it tore at the fiber of her being and ripped it to pieces, love sucked.
“Eat up and let’s go to class.” Malia said as the bell signifying the end of lunch went off.
“Like I care about lunch right now,” she scoffed, pushing her food away, she had not really eaten anything and Groupie ‘tsked’ he hated seeing food going to waste.
“Don’t even say a word,” Malia warned as they stood up and headed for class.
The whole day went by painfully slow for Pers, each time they had a free period she went straight to the art classes to talk to Ethan but each time she saw him he ignored her and it hurt.
Once she met a girl sitting on his lap and all hell would have broken loose if not for groupie who happened to have followed her secretly and dragged her before she could cause a scene or do something she regretted.
