I've always wondered what the ocean was like. I've heard the tales, of rippling blue waves, cool and refreshing. My parents used to describe it as the cure to all their problems. Apparently, it was endless, just like the sky, except, like us it was held hostage by gravity. But it put up a fight; colossal billows blocking the sun and crashing down on its immobile yellow victim. I've sketched the 'sea-life' from old books I found in the library and studied the coral life on the ocean floor, I've even spoken to the wisewoman who lives in the outskirts but no matter how much I discover, it's never enough. I pine to feel the water dripping from my skin and seek comfort in its depths. I crave the sound that can has only ever been heard from what they call 'shells'.
Every day I sit here – on this boulder - for hours on end just thinking about how different life would be if the sea was still here. I look out at the plastic filled void and sketch what I imagine the tides looked like. It's not perfect, not by a long shot, but it's the closest I've got to fulfillment.
There's no oceans these days. No hope on the horizon. No place to explore. It took up 71% of the earth, so now we're confined to the remaining 29%. The stories, pictures and books are the only reminders we have of the past beauty. The beauty that they took away from us. The ghost of the ocean lives on in the hearts of the Klender generation but that doesn't dissipate my rage.
I am consumed by an unending fury that shakes me from the pits of my soul. I will have my revenge. I have been deprived and my wrath will be inflicted upon all who have done wrong by me.
If you're reading this, you are from the past. I've tampered with space and time to send this message back to you but know that it was worth it. Your fate has been sealed and your doom is inevitable. You should never have polluted the universe with that treacherous plastic. There will be consequences.
Mark my words. I'm coming for you.
