"Hyung you'll do great." Jungkook said to his best friend Namjoon as they were standing backstage.
"I just don't know, my writing might not be good enough." Namjoon said scratching the back of his head.
"Of course it is! I've heard you read it out loud. It's amazing." Jungkook said and caressed Namjoon's arm gentle to make him calm down.
"This short story means everything, I mean if I win this competition, they'll print it in a book with nine others from other competitions. That's crazy." Namjoon said both nervous and excited. Jungkook really admired Namjoon and his way of writing. Jungkook never really cared for literature but he loved to hear Namjoon read his stories out loud.
"I know and of course you'll win." Jungkook said confident in his friends writing.
"You'll jinx it." Namjoon said only half-joking.
"Sorry." Jungkook said when a sharp sound, sounded and someone started to speak on stage. "I'll go sit in the audience." Jungkook said and turned to walk.
"Wait. What if I can't do it?" Namjoon said, his heart galloping away and his palms sweaty.
"Joonie of course you can. You are the wisest, most wonderful, caring, smartest, incredible person I know and you are an amazing writer. So it's not a question about if you can do it, because I know you can. It's a question about how well you'll do it and I already have an answer to that. You'll do an incredible job." Jungkook said with a little smile.
"Thank you. You always know what to say." Namjoon said grateful and returned Jungkook's smile with a nervous one.
"Well I try." Jungkook said and Namjoon pulled him into a hug. Jungkook hugged him back tightly before letting go. "You'll do great. Now take a deep breath and know I'll sit in the audience cheering for you." Namjoon nodded while taking a deep breath.
"Okay, I'm ready." Namjoon said, really meaning it.
"Good. Now I'll go but remember my words." Jungkook said and gave a cheerful smile.
"I will." Namjoon said as Jungkook walked down to his seat. As soon as he sat down, he felt the nervousness set in too. He had no problem being strong for Namjoon but now as he sat alone in the dark, listening to someone reading her story, he felt nervous for him. It wasn't that he didn't believe in him, he did believe all the words he had told Namjoon, but he knew how nervous he would get sometimes. Jungkook remembered his earlier words and took a deep breath. Namjoon would be up as the fifth person, so Jungkook sat quietly and listened to the others. They were all really good but it couldn't compare to Namjoon's piece. After what seemed like forever, one of the judges got up on stage again.
"And now the next writer, reading his short story called: "A love between friends." Kim Namjoon." Jungkook felt himself applause but felt confused as it wasn't the short story, he thought it was. He had never heard that title before. Though the confusion was replaced by proudness as he saw Namjoon walk on stage. Jungkook could clearly see he was nervous but he had faith in him. Namjoon looked up and found Jungkook's eyes in the crowd. Jungkook took a deep breath in while Namjoon followed his lead and together they exhaled. Namjoon gave a little nod and started to, as it was required, to tell about the short story.
"I wrote this story, thinking about my best friend Jungkook. He has supported me through both good and bad times, and I think the bond we share, is something not many people get to experience, and it's definitely worth writing about. So this one goes out to Jungkook, my soulmate in a shape of a friend." Jungkook couldn't deny the tears in his eyes as he told about his story and as he started to read, Jungkook felt a lump in his throat. The story was so beautiful as it told the stories of two boys, who stood by each other, seeing as one of them went through a rough time. It described perfectly how their friendship was and Jungkook really had to fight not to cry as he ended the story. An applause sounded loudly, but Jungkook clapped the loudest. As soon as Namjoon had walked off the stage, Jungkook hurried backstage. And the moment he saw Namjoon, he hurried over to him and hugged him tightly.
"That was beautiful." Jungkook whispered in Namjoon's ear, as he had his arms around him neck. Namjoon had his arms around the small of his back, pressing him into himself.
"You really liked it? I wasn't sure if you would like me writing about our friendship." Namjoon said into Jungkook's ear.
"I loved it. I really did." Jungkook said and finally they pulled away. "Thank you." Jungkook said while Namjoon dried an escaped tear away from Jungkook.
"Sorry you can't be behind here." Someone suddenly said to Jungkook and Jungkook nodded.
"Right, sorry." Jungkook said politely. "I really loved it." Jungkook said before turning around and walking back to his seat. Jungkook spend the three last short stories, thinking about how much he loved Namjoon and felt lucky to have a friend like him. Before he knew it, the judges went to another room to discuss who would win. Namjoon found Jungkook, as there was a break.
"Should we find some food?" Namjoon asked, knowing Jungkook would be hungry.
"Yes!" Jungkook said and they walked out to small booths who sold food. They found something they liked and found a place to eat.
"The others were really good." Namjoon said, his nervousness back in place.
"Yeah they were good, but you were great." Jungkook said and took a sip of their shared soda.
"As my best friend, you have to say stuff like that." Namjoon said only joking a little.
"As your best friend, I'm suppose to tell you the truth and the truth is you're great." Jungkook said, while Namjoon clearly doubted him. Soon after they were asked to come back inside, as the judges had made a decision. "Go get it, winner." Jungkook whispered in Namjoon's ear, right before they had to part. Namjoon couldn't help but to smile as he walked on stage with the other contestants.
"The judges have reached a descion. As you all probably are well aware of, the winner will get their short story published in a book together with nine other short stories from other places in the country... Now without further ado, the winner of this competition is...." Jungkook felt his heart speed up and his palms being sweaty, and he knew Namjoon felt the same. "...Kim Namjoon." Jungkook felt his body relax and clapped loudly together with the others. Namjoon's eyes had widen as he walked up to the judges, to get flowers and a paper which said he won.
"Tell us how you feel." The judges said as they smiled at him.
"I feel..overwhelmed and like I owe it all to my biggest supporter..Jungkook. Can he get up on stage?" Namjoon fumbled his words relived and happy.
"Of course he can." One of the judges said and Jungkook made his way to the stage with a big smile. He ran to Namjoon and gave him a back hug as Namjoon had gotten tears in his eyes. It meant the world to him. Jungkook smiled brightly while Namjoon tried his best to dry the tears away. The rest was sort of a blur for the both of them, so later when Jungkook remembered back on the moment, he mostly remembered hugging Namjoon, feeling endlessly happy for his friend and extremely proud. He remembered a strange feeling of deep admiration and love for Namjoon and the friendship they shared, because as Namjoon had said it was really one of a kind, and it always would be.
