Your POV
NEW YORK CITY.You had been in NYC for a week now and it was amazing.
You had a cute little apartment and a job as a waitress.
Magnus had stayed in Wales for the time being, vowing to come and visit you in New York (he had groaned loudly at your choice of location) in a few months.
You were out in the park on your day off when you saw a most peculiar sight.
Five teenagers all sitting on a pile of big rocks in the park. Now the rocks nor the teenager's presence were entirely peculiar, people sat on the rocks all the time (if they could get up there), it was the fact that four of them had strange swirling tattoos all over them. You decided to walk closer.
You covertly wandered by the rock, while taking in the view.
There were three boys and two girls.
Two of the boys were stunning, in an angelic and almost inhuman way. One of them had golden hair much like your own (a/n or not, if you don't want it to be) and eyes like golden orbs, the other had hair as black as night and deep blue bottomless eyes.
The last boy was what you would have described as adorable.
He had glasses and ruffled brown hair, a T-shirt that said, Calculating Noob Percentage 100%.
The other two were just wearing black.
The girls were just as striking, one had flaming red hair and green eyes, her face was lightly sprinkles with freckles and she was holding hands with, and leaning up against, the golden haired boy.
The other girl had black hair like the second boy.
Her face was stern and cautious.
But then she started laughing at something 'glasses' had said, and it changed her face completely.
You were so completely mystified by the group, that you didn't see the log and proceeded to hit the ground.
You mentally grinded yourself.
7 years of intense training and you trip over a log? Honestly.
"Are you okay?" A voice said from behind you.
You quickly rolled onto your back and looked up at the voice.
It was the green eyed girl.
"Ah yes, I was just admiring this lovely grass with my even lovelier face," you said, propping you head up onto your hands.
"Oh, I see. You're not from around here are you?" She asked, reaching a hand down.
"Not indeed, its my first time in America," you said, letting her pull you up.
"We have great grass don't we?" The golden boy asked, smirking at you.
"Yes, but admittedly your public restrooms are well below par, although I will admit, all the handsome people make up for it," you said, brushing yourself off.
"I am pretty handsome," he acknowledged; thoughtfully stroking his chin.
The rest of the group seemed accustomed to this behaviour and were only watching you.
"Oh well, I personally, have been admiring that absolutely gorgeous man over there," you said, indicating to an overweight, balding, middle aged man, who was currently undertaking the task of eating several hot dogs.
The laugh sort of shot out of him.
He looked surprised, like he wasn't expecting the laugh to shoot out of him.
The other quietly laughed.
"Well, my name is Clarissa. But you can call me Clary," the red haired girl said, offering out her hand.
"That's Jace, Alec, Isabelle and Simon," she said, indicating to the other members of the group.
"Well it's very nice to meet you all, my name is y/n," you explained, as they greeted you.
"So what are you doing in NYC?" Simon asked, indicating for you to come and join them on the rock.
"I'm travelling," you answered, shooing away the hand that Jace offered down, and easily scaling the rocks.
The group looked momentarily stunned before they regained their composure.
"Where have you travelled so far?" Isabelle asked, while Clary took a seat on the rock next to you.
"Only here," you answered, then remembering your earlier interest; you decided to speak up.
"What are those drawings on you? Are they tattoos?" you asked, referring the the runes.
"Yea, you could say that," Clary smiled, and you noticed the smile go around the group, a smile that meant a shared secret, an old secret, one well kept. It said that these people had known each other for a long time, they had been through a lot together.
"You don't have them," you pointed out, looking a Simon.
"Yea I have some, you just can't see them," he answered calmly.
You're lying
"I see," you said, resting your elbows on your knees.
"Why?" You asked, as the group looked at you in confusion.
Its like they operate as one, one organism always knowing what the other part is going to do.
"I mean why do you have them? I know people have tattoos but these ones are similar," you imposed, looking at the runes on Alec's arm.
"It's part of our religion," Isabelle explained.
"What religion is that? I've never heard of a religion doing this before. I mean, I know religions have tattooed people before but these tattoos are different. Actually, I've seen these before," You muttered the last part.
"Its a mixed religion," Clary filled in, looking just the slightest bit nervous.
"Yea, it's a mixture of basically all the religions," Jace explained, as you nodded your head.
"Huh," you pondered, nodding your head.
"You sure ask a lot of questions," Simon said jovially; shrugging on his jacket.
"I like to have a lot of answers," you shrugged.
"You said you'd seen these before, the runes, if I may ask, where?" Jace's gaze was steady.
You thought about lying, but then you decided they might tell you more if they thought you knew a bit about them.
"My fathers study, I used to break in and read his books. It was in a book, a very old one, I could hardly read it. It was called the something-hunters codex," you realized as soon as you said it.
The Shadowhunters Codex, now I know why Dad never told me the name of the "Shadowhunter bible" it was because I had already found it in his study.
But if I saw the runes in that book then that must mean that these people.....
"You're Shadowhunters," you exclaimed under your breath.
"Um we should get going its getting dark," Alec said, and suddenly they were all up and moving, saying 'goodbye' and 'nice meeting you'
"WAIT!!," you called out, causing them to freeze.
"You're Shadowhunters," you said, and suddenly they bolted.
You hadn't noticed before but storm clouds had rolled over and it was starting to pour, you considered going home and looking for them another day, because who chases strangers through the city at night while its pouring.
No normal people that's for sure.
But... Then again. This is Shadowhunting life, this is what you wanted despite the fact that you weren't actually a Shadowhunter.
So you leapt off the rocks and hit the wet grass, the rain was pouring down now and they had decided to split up.
Simon had run off with Clary and Isabelle, and Jace and Alec were currently slipping down an alleyway.
Follow the boys
You bolted for the alleyway, thanking Sarah ( one of your fitness tutors) for making you run through the Olympic pool every day. After running in a pool, running on dry land feels like flying.
You turned a corner just fast enough to see a flash of golden hair whip up a fire escape.
You followed them up onto the roof and only just caught them jumping onto the next roof.
Oh so you guys like roof jumping? Oh me too
You didn't stop running as you leapt over the gap between the buildings and landed safely on the other side.
Your pumping adrenaline allowed you to get closer to the boys.
They looked back and saw you still tailing them, and the looks of shock that ensued, well let's just say it would have made the best screensaver.
"I'm not going to hurt you!," you called out, soaked through and through from the rain.
They jumped across another roof and disappeared.
"Bloody hell!" You shouted into the darkness.
"If you're Shadowhunters then you're friends of my father. You might even know his boyfriend, I don't know his boyfriend because my father keeps me rather shielded. But nonetheless," you yelled into the darkness again.
"His name is Magnus Bane, I am his daughter. Sort of," you said the last part mostly to yourself.
You heard a noise from behind a radiator, it sounded much like choking.
"Magnus Bane has a daughter?" A rather pale Alec emerged from behind the radiator despite the protests of Jace.
"A rather stunning one, at that," you grinned, leaping across the roof the where Jace had also emerged from behind the radiator.
"And you, you are that daughter?" Alec asked, the rain pouring down on his dark hair.
"That I am. You look rather pale, are you well?" you inquired, your eyebrows furrowing.
"I am Magnus Bane's boyfriend, and I didn't know he had a daughter," he said solemnly.
"Oh, terribly sorry he didn't mention it. Yes I've been with him since I was a baby, so its not really a new development, as such," you said, pushing your soaked hair out of your face.
"Perhaps you should come with us," Jace said, his hand on his Parabatai's arm.
"But I'm soaked!" you protested.
"Don't make me carry you," he warned, speaking with all the care and caution of an older brother.
You gasped and clutched your hand to your chest.
"You wouldn't dare!" you cried, as he looked at you.
"Right then," he sighed, and hoisted you over his shoulder.
The rest of the trip consisted of you swearing at him and him being tied between swearing at you or telling you to mind your language.
"God, you two are like quarreling siblings," Alec moaned, as you turned another alleyway corner.
"You would know," Jace retorted.
"Where are we going?," you asked for the hundredth time.
"Be quiet," Jace demanded, putting you down.
"Ugh finally, I was starting to get a headache," you whined.
"We're here," Alec declared and you turned around to see an old run down church.
"Well clap clap boys, this is stunning," you said sarcastically, while mock clapping your hands.
"What if she can't see through it?" Alec whispered to Jace.
"She will," Jace replied.
"Listen to me, let your eyes wander around, then quickly focus on the building," his tone was soothing; his hands on your shoulders.
"Why?," you asked turning around.
"Don't ask just- can you please just do as I say?" Jace asked impatiently.
"Yes Mum," you said sarcastically.
Jace just sighed.
You did focus and what you saw was.... Amazing.
"Wow," you breathed.
"See? All you needed to do was focus," Jace said proudly.
"Oh my god, yes okay, I get it. Jeez you sound like a shrink," you huffed.
"Alright let's go in," Alec said.
"Sooo, who owns 'Hotel Transylvania'?" you asked, as you walked up the steps.
"Its not 'Hotel Transylvania' its the New York Institute," he explained, while Alec started talking to the door.
"Umm, your buddy has gone loco," you remarked, twirling your finger in circles around the side of your head.
"Everything we do is for a reason," Jace said, as the doors opened.
He gave you a 'See?' look, but you just rolled your eyes.
"Could have just pushed it open," you muttered, walking past Jace.
You all hopped in a weird little elevator and went to the upper floors.
Once the doors opened Jace said "Let me do the talking."
"Jace, Alec, we were worried. Clary and Isabelle said something happened and-" she paused when she looked at you.
"Who is this?" The woman asked, you thought she looked a lot like Isabelle and Alec.
"This is y/n Bane. Magnus's daughter," Jace explained, the woman looked at Alec, who was avoiding eye contact.
"I didn't know Mr. Bane had a daughter," the woman said, her face suddenly stern.
"You're not the only one," Alec muttered.
"Its a little known fact, he preferred to keep me away from all the fighting," you said quickly.
"I see, well my name is Maryse Lightwood. I am Alec, Isabelle and Jace's mother," she said, shaking your outstretched hand.
"I guessed Alec and Isabelle were related, but not Jace," you said, your deadly grin never faltering.
It appeared to be bothering Mrs. Lightwood.
"Yes well, he is adopted but we love him like our own," she tutted, looking everywhere but your face.
"I see," your long, thick, dark lashes, rose and fell lazily, like a cats.
"Why did you bring her here?" Maryse asked Jace.
You slowly lifted to head up to Jace and looked at him.
"Well?!"
"Well given that she is Magnus Bane's daughter, who is a close friend of the Conclave, and she knows about the Shadow World; we brought her here to make sure she wouldn't tell anyone," Jace covered smoothly. An innocent smile on his face.
"Right then, well get her some dry clothes and a room and dinner will be ready in half an hour," Mrs. Lightwood informed you before she stalked off, her heels clacking against the cold wooden floor.
"Thanks Mrs. L!" You called out gleefully.
She just walked faster.
