Chapter 4

I couldn't open my eyes.

I could hear the people around me talking. I wanted to tell them that I was fine.

"Your daughter is lucky. Normally someone with the same bullet wounds wouldn't have survived more than 20 minutes, which is the time the ambulance took to bring her here." I guess that was the doctor, he talked with a miracle type of 'I-don't-understand-but-I'm-super-happy' tone.

"Really?" My mother wondered. "Why isn't she awake now then?" She questions worried.

"I honestly have no idea she should wake up soon by how fast she's recovering." The doctor admits. "She's probably just too tired to wake up which is really normal." He continued.

"Thank you, doctor." My history teacher told him.

Wait! What? My history teacher is here?

Now I really don't want to wake up.

"How is she?!" My best friend shrieks almost crying while entering the room.

"She's fine, dear. She should wake up when she's ready." My mother explained.

"What is our history teacher doing here?" Kayla asked really clueless.

"He's with me." My mother answered. "Will you stay with Milena? I need to go get some clothes for her." She adds.

"Yeah, sure" Kayla accepts happily.

My mother left with Mr. Robert. Kayla sat next to me on the bed and held my hand.

I tried to open my eyes again and I could only open them partially before falling asleep again. Not before hearing my best friend asking for the doctor. I guess she saw my eyes moving.

I regained consciousness and I could finally open my eyes. Kayla was there but the jerk too.

"Hi." I softly spoke, looking at my best friend. "How long was I out?" I asked.

"You slept for an entire month." She said with a sweet smile. "How are you feeling?" She questions.

"No way? You're lying!" I exclaim. "I really don't believe you ?" I added.

"You're right. You only slept for a day and a half." She explained with a huge smile. "It's noon now. you must be hungry?" Kayla adds.

I see James get closer now. I really didn't feel like talking to him. "Hey! How are you feeling?" He asked.

"Could be better I kind of got shot. Twice." I answered while looking away from his eyes.

"Yeah. I know, it's my fault. I'm sorry. I wish I could have prevented it." He told me with a really sincere tone.

I really wish I didn't go to the party. But it's too late now and the bad parts already happened. I guess I'm stuck with the consequences.

"I'm sorry, but I'm tired. I think I'll sleep more." I spoke while starting to lay down.

"Sweetie, you should eat a little before you go to sleep again," Kayla said.

"Fine. But can you ask him to leave?" I asked. "I don't like being near him," I added. I know I was being a baby but he's the one who brought that guy for whatever reason and I found myself shot. I kind of have the right to be immature at least until I'm in the hospital.

"I get it. I'll leave but you should know I never wanted you to get hurt. If only I could do it all again. I would've protected you more or just have never let him think we were still together." James confesses. "You're the best person I know." He adds. After the last word he just left without second a glance.
