Chapter 7

“You think we can talk?” Helena stands by the almost closed door of Francesco’s office.

“Come in.” He said without looking up from his computer as his fingers type away like lightning bolts.  Her eyes scan his figure. Such a deadly man so never be too attractive. It’s a curse to those around him.

She rolls her eyes. She needs to earn his trust? First she needs to earn his attention which is obviously lacking in the aspect.

“Speak or get out, Helena.”

“Ouch.” She puts a hand over her heart and sits on the chair dramatically. “You are breaking the heart that I don’t have.”

“I am in no mood to withstand your dramatics today. I am a busy man as it is to put up with your childness.”

“Fine.” She sits up trying to be in control of the situation. “I want to say sorry.” Her voice sounds so sincerer she even shocks herself at the lie.

Francesco turns away from his laptop and closes it shut. He narrows his eyes at her and sits back with his hand gently caressing his chin. “Sorry about what?”

“About being such a drag all the time, or all those things that obviously annoys you. Okay? I’m sorry.” This time she said the word with disgust. She never says sorry to anyone let alone a mobster who would probably kill her in a heartbeat if he knew why she is truly in here.

“You are sorry.” He simply states with an expressionless face.

“Mother fucker!” She stands up with fury. “Yes. I’m fucking sorry you inconsiderate asshole.” She glares at him as he raises his eyebrow with amusement. “Why do I even bother? It’s not like you care.”

Helena slams the door out of his office. She can’t believe that he finds it amusing that she’s apologizing. Does he have no clue how much that costs her in her pride area? He’s an asshole and on top of that she probably pissed him off with the door slamming. She knows she’s on an assignment and can’t get her emotions in the way of work, but damn. Francesco just gets under skin every time he looks at her. Everything he does bothers her and it sucks that there’s no escape for it.

“Stupid Italian men who think unfunny things funny.” She mummers as she walks her way toward the back yard. At the sight of the spacious yard she glares. “Great and the sun is shining in mobster land. Stupid world and their contradictions.”  Without giving it much thought, she lays down on the grass thinking about how upside down her life is and how much she’s risking at being so close with a mobster who wouldn’t hesitate to kill her. A mobster who has the darkest hair she has ever seen and those eyes that hid so many secrets that she is actually interested in finding out. That alone scares her. She dislikes everything Francesco is, but she’s also fascinated by him in a twisted way.

What does she really want with Francesco? It is an assignment or is there more…? No, she shakes her head. That’s can’t be possible. He’s a killer… Well she’s one too… But he’s different because she chooses his life style while she doesn’t. She has no choice. Ever since she was tweleve she has had to train to9 live and kill to survive the vengeful strikes of her father. No child deserves that, but it’s livable. She can’t take interest in this assignment. She can’t get attached to anyone in this house because soon they will all probably die at the hands of division and she will walk out without turning back with her freedom in hand. That freedom with be her life and has been her goal since the day she started killing. She needs to move on from this life and dance her way to the top, literally.

No more assignments. No more dreams. Just the sound of music and the clear mind she has always desired. Francesco is just a pawn to get to where she wants to be. That is all he is to her.
