"be happy for this moment. This moment is your life."

Chapter VIII

It's been two weeks since Rosey and I tried to escape and the last time I saw Rei. Rosey comes once in awhile because her house is far from here. I got used of the place a bit. The place isn't so horrible just...lonely people around with little damages on their brain.  they were scary at first because I only knew people with sane mind but if you observe them and try to understand why they think and act that way, you'll understand why. I should go to the backyard. I opened the transparent door and when I was about to step out, I heard a voice from my back.

"Where are you going?"

"It's none of your business mister."

"But it matters to me" he leaned on the door smiling.

"Jem, step aside. I wanna breathe some fresh air." I told him.

"I'll accompany you." He said.

"I don't need one."

"It would be a problem if I let you have a second to escape." He raised his left eyebrow while smiling.

I glared and stepped out. I don't know if my mom hired him to be my personal watch dog but he sure enjoying himself to wave his tail and follow me around.

I lied on the grass staring at the blue sky with little puffy clouds on it. The breeze are so soothing that I decided to close my eyes. But soon felt a chilling air right beside me. An air I'm so familiarized and a temperature that I truly miss.

"Sighs"

A voice I wanted to hear.

"Rei." I called out slowly opened my eyes and sat back. He smiled and I was influenced and smiled back. I was planning to nag and rant about what I felt when he left me but everything felt so unimportant now. I just want to spend a quality time together because, he feels like home.

"Where did you go?" I asked softly.

"Somewhere" He said and patted my head. How I miss this little gesture he makes.

"Where is that somewhere eiy?" I crossed my arms. He looked straight to my eyes. I sensed hesitation in his gaze. He sighed.

"Well-"

"Are you talking to your friend Aria?"

I was startled and glared at Jem's sudden interruption.

"What do you want? " I asked.

"I just wanna be friends with your friend too, can't I?" He said looking at my side.

" what? You don't have to know Rei-" I bit my lower lip. Regretting how I easily slipped Rei's name.

"Ohh, so he's called Rei. Cool"

Again... that look. I know you don't believe me and trying to play like you understand me. Everybody does.

"It's none of your business"

I looked back to see Rei but again, He's gone.

Where did he go?

"What's wrong?" Jem asked.

"Nothing." I replied and stood up. I started walking away planning to go to my assigned room but He grabbed my wrist.

"Hey, if you happen to feel lonely, You can talk to me too. I can be your friend. "

Can I even trust you?

"Look, I know I gave you bad impression but I want you to understand that we are doing this for you, not to trap you. I wish you well being. "

You don't understand.

He looked at me. His face soften, a kind look.
He held my hands and brushed his thumbs on my hands.

"...Whatever." I took my hands back and started walking away.

"Aria!" He called and I looked back.

"What-" he threw something and I caught it. I opened my hands and I received, a strawberry milk candy.

"Rei, come out." I waited for few seconds but he didn't pop out.

Sighs.

*knock knock*

Uhhh.. can I not answer-

*knock knock*

"Who are you?"

*knock knock*

Okayyyyyy? "Bro?"

*silence*

"Jem?"

*silence*

Okay.. this is creeping me out a bit. I slowly walked towards the door and twisted it. Slowly opening the door and in my surprise, she was my cousin, Rozan.

"Tada! I bought you a cake!"

As if the empty room was filled up by the sun light , I felt warm.

"Thanks" I received the cake and put it beside my bed.

"How are you?" She asked.

How I am? I don't know maybe feeling accused to be crazy.

I shrugged my shoulder and lift it up gesturing the word "I don't know".

" hey, do you know that your mom has been drinking non-stop these days? She also smoke" she told me.

"How would I know? I'm in this place."

"Right" she replied.

Sighs... mom. I'm really sorry.

The thought of her getting drank and slowly ruining her health with smoke made me feel so bad that everything right at this moment felt like my fault.  Maybe she feels lonely. She must miss My older sister so much... if only I was the one who died...

After some hours talking about the outside world, Rozan decided to go home. As the door closed, I lied down on my bed resting.

"Hoshina"

I sat up and face Rei on the other side.

"Welcome back" I said.

"Thanks." He sat next to me

"Where did you go this time?" I asked him seriously

"Fed Noah" he replied.

"Really?"

"Yep."

"How is Noah?" I asked worried if he's okay.

"Well, same as always. Though he seems a little bit lonely without you."  He said. I felt sad knowing Noah is waiting at home.

"How long will I be here.." I unconsciously said.

"Hope you get out of here soon Hoshina " he pat my head. I smiled and closed my eyes.

Few weeks have passed and every time Rosey come to visit or Rozan come to visit, they talk about how my mom is doing badly at home. I started to feel uneasy about her life style and I kept asking the doctors to give me at-least 1 day freedom to get out of here but they never listen to me. Because they were instructed to never let me go unless I am well enough and until mom pick me up. I kept trying every method I could to get out of here with Rei but nothing worked until, I received a news.

"Hoshina... your mother ..."
