Deception
When I get back to the dorms Payton is nowhere to be seen. I assume she's at her film class, so I decide to get take-out instead of going anywhere. I pull out my phone to search what Jimmy John's number is. After ordering a foot-long sandwich I scroll through my contacts. I only have a few: "Mother", "Father", Ab, Payton, and Harry. I shut my phone off then do a double take to look at my contacts. Under H's is 'Harry'. When did I get his number?
Right as the thought crosses my mind my mind I get a new text message.
From Harry:
Can't wait to see you in two days
Always so demanding. He must always get his way. I also get a text message from Payton saying that tonight we are gonna rent movies and order pizza. I respond with a simple 'okay'.
It's only the first week of classes so I don't have much work to do. I decide to go over the syllabus for Literature. I've read most of the books on the list already, but there are three I'm unfamiliar to.
The bookstore is only a few blocks away, so what does it hurt to walk a little? May as well buy the books now so I don't have to read them frantically during class.
Once I arrive at the bookstore I head straight to the Adult section where I know all these books will be located. The store is larger than I'd been expecting with three sections: Adult, Young Adult, and Children. The store seems to be divided in those sections with each being a different shade of purple- even the carpet color is different. Cute.
My phone buzzes from my brown satchel. I pull it out to answer Abby's call.
"Hey Cassie! How's it going? Do you like your roommate? You haven't texted me yet, not even once." Ab playfully pouts.
"Sorry, it's been a helluva few days." My fingers brush against all the books' spines. I stop on the third shelf and pull out one of the three books I need. I remember Abby asked me questions and I replay what'd she had said to answer them. "It's been going great actually. And my roommate- ugh, I love her! We are best friends now actually. I'm so happy to finally have a good friend." I sigh. Abby knows I've always kept to myself over the years.
"That's perfect I'm so happy for you Cassie. You needed to get out of here." She whispers the last part my heart drops to my stomach. I had been forgetting my treacherous parents.
"How, how are they?" I ask my voice low.
"The day you left was good surprisingly. They threw a party with everyone from work and some of those guys were there." I know exactly what guys she is talking about. "Mom and Dad left me alone but some of their friends didn't."
"I shouldn't have ever left. This is all my fault; it's just going to continue to get worse and worse." I can't let my voice crack or allow the lump in my throat to grow.
"Mom has started not drinking as much but when she doesn't drink at all dad makes her. She seems to be trying to get out of her alcoholism." A loud crash goes through the phone. The familiar sound of glass breaking against the tile floor of the kitchen sends shivers down my spine. "Abigal, c'mon honey it's fun down here!" I hear my father's voice through the phone.
I know Abby has to go, "I love you Ab, hang in there."
"I love you Cassie. Do good in school got it? Get a boy too. Oh, and don't ever come back here, promise?"
I begin to respond but am cut off by my father's booming voice before the call ends. I stand glued to the ground for a minute before grabbing my other two books and to the check-out. I hand the lady my card and she swipes it before handing my Visa back to me.
"Have a good day." I give her a polite smile before leaving. If only Abby could have a good day.

"Cassie, oh my gosh guess what?" Payton squeals once she steps foot into our small dorm. I'm about to ask her 'what?' but before I have the chance Payton takes it upon herself to speak. "Louis asked me to come to his party! It's two days, and you have to come with me. Please? Anyway, Lou he's the best guy ever. I can't wait to hang out with him!" I've been reading for the past three hours, and my head wasn't ready for all this excitement. It takes me a minute for my eyes to adjust. I have to repeat everything Payton just said so I can fully understand her.
"Sorry I was really focused and I'm having trouble focusing on anything besides my book," I laugh a little bit. "That's great! And I don't know if I can go to those parties again. I hate being around so many nasty men." My nose scrunches. It's only half true, I also don't want to have another run-in to Harry.
"C'mon Turner it'll be fun I swear of it." Payton's jeweled hand goes to the left side of her chest. I guess that's her way of keeping a promise.
"But I really would prefer not to." I place my book on the nightstand next to my tiny twin bed.
"Three hours. That's it, that's all I'm asking." Payton pleads. "I really, really, really, don't want to go without you." She whines.
"One hour." I stand from the bed only to sit back down. I decide to cross my legs since my feet aren't dirty, so they can't ruin my royal blue comforter.
"Two and a half."
"Fine! Gosh whatever." I huff throwing my hands in the air. Payton smiles and dials a number. Until I hear her asking the special of the day I don't know she's actually calling the pizza place.
"Just ordered a large pizza." Payton over-exaggeratedly licks her lips. I just roll my eyes as she throws her phone onto my bed. "You know, I would've gone for only an hour."
"And I would've stayed for three." I wickedly smile.
"Ugh whatever. Just don't forget to be here at the dorm by at least six thirty so we can eat and get ready together."
"Okay I will be here by six probably after classes and stuff," I nod along planning my entire Thursday. It's only 180 minutes that's fine I can deal with that. All I've got to do is stay away from Harry. I can't even let him see me or else I will immediately melt and allow those jade eyes' of his to sink their claws into me.
hey it's liv! Sorry this is short I just really wanted to update because it's been awhile(:
