Deception
* Four months later *
Cassie's POV
This was it. One more street until I would be saying goodbye to Abby and arriving at NCU for four years.
"Okay, this is it," Abby said with tear stained cheeks as we pulled up to the dorm building I would be staying in this year.
We both slammed the car doors closed and walked in front of the hood of the car to embrace each other tightly. My head lays in the crook of her neck as she sobs into my shoulder. As we pull away from each other I notice the black marks on my shoulder from Abby's running mascara. Abby notices the stain and laughs lightly.
"Sorry 'bout that," she whispers.
I begin to laugh along but seriousness quickly takes over.
This is the last time I will be seeing Abby until college is over. Abby never got the chance to go to college, my parents would never pay the tuition. I was lucky to get a scholarship in literacy, to be able to get away from my parents without digging myself into a hole.
"I'm sorry Abby, I love you so much." I look into her green eyes, full of confusion.
"For what?"
"For leaving you to them."
"Cassie, I'm glad you have this amazing opportunity. You're going to have a great life, I will too. I'm going to get my degree, and then get the hell away from that shit of a town," her eyes are now filled with hope.
"And Cassie, you've stopped self harming right?" Abby's hands are now softly wrapped around my wrists, and I know she is completely serious.
Doesn't she know I can't stop? If I could then I would, but it's impossible. It's my drug- it may not be good, but it releases my pain.
"I have," I partially lie to her and pull her in for one more hug. I think once college starts I will be so busy I won't even think of my mother and father. As we untangle our arms a woman with a name tag walks up to us
"All your belongings are already in your dorms Miss Turner," she politely smiles and turns on her heel. Before the lady can get two steps away she whirls around with wide eyes. "I almost forgot! Hall E dorm number 21," and with that she leaves just as quickly as she had come.
"Call me okay?" I turn my attention back to Abby.
"I will when they're gone," she weakly smiles before getting into the car.
"I love you Abby!" I yell out as her car pulls away. It stops and the driver's door opens.
"I love you more Cassie," she kisses my cheek and runs back into the car. "Don't forget me," she yells out the passenger window as the small car's engine roars to life again.
"Never," I whisper to myself before looking up at the huge building that is now my home.
I turn the key to my dorm and see a girl with brown hair hunched over a large suite case.
"Hi! I'm Pa-" she stops talking when she turns around to see me in the doorway.
"Payton?" I whisper in disbelief.
"Cassie!" She squeals before running up to me. It takes me a few moments to register what's going on. I wrap my arms around her just as she is pulling away. Damn she is hyper.
Payton.
The girl who sat by me at lunch because her best friend- Ariana had died.
"This is great! I thought I'd have to go the bar tonight by myself," she claps her hands before turning her attention back to the suitcase. A few seconds later she pulls out an outfit.
