Decepetion
"Tonight our wine specials are the 2007 Dönnhoff Norheimer Dellchen Riesling Grosses Gewächs, 2010 Chateau Montelena Esatate Cabernet Sauvignon and, 2005 Chateau Certan De May. What would you two like to drink?" The waiter asks with a slight Italian accent. I've never heard of those wines, but they certainly sound expensive. I'm glad the waiter came because he dismissed the tension in the air even for only a moment.
"We will take a bottle of the Certan De May, thank you." Harry's tone practically pushes the waiter away.
"But, Sir, I need an I.D."
"No, you do not," Harry doesn't even look up from the menu when he speaks.
"But, you two look very young, and it's against my contract to-"
"So, you're saying I look too wimpy to beat you to a pulp?"
"No, that's not what I'm saying at all but-"
I decide to end the two men's banterings, considering the waiter looked as if he was about to pee his pants. "Mister, you aren't going to get your way and I suppose you like big tips, so Isuggest you walk away, get our drinks, and give us a big fat discount."
"Yes... okay ma'am," he says skeptically.
Harry gives me a similar skeptical look as the waiter walks to the kitchen tripping under his own feet.
"What was that all about? Think I didn't have ahold of the situation?" Harry hisses. I breathe in to gather my pateince and sort what I am going to say.
"I guess you don't understand the power of a woman." I smirk trying to lighten the mood. I know how easy it is for Harry to transfer moods, but for some reason he won't get out of this funk. I want to have fun and learn more about Harry, I want to know his history, his beliefs, his wants, anything about him. I just need to keep myself in check so I don't go crazy over a practical stranger being angry at me.
"Then I guess we are just going to act like we both don't know I have the upperhand in this relationship." I'm appalled at his dominanting behavior, but my heart drops when he says 'relationship'. I should be focused on the beginning part of his sentence, but I can't help getting side-tracked.
"Relationship? Harry this," I motion between us with my hands, "whatever this is, is nothing yet. Once you learn to respect me and know I am equal to you, and once we know at least a litle bit-"
"No. Cass, I'm sorry to break it to you, but you need to calm down and just let things roll. You are acting as though there is something I'm hiding, or something you are hiding, so I believe that's the real problem. You need to understand that in the end we will be together, so what's the point of foreplay?" Harry lays back in his silk chair without a look of doubt tracing his features. If there is one thing I have learned from my treacherous home it is that I can't be weak, and I must hold my own ground.
I just shake my head and wait for the waiter to come with the wine. Thankfully he returns soon and I have a glass to hide behind. I order a chicken special and Harry orders his own Filet MIgnon.
My phone rings, and I answer to hear Abby's voice, "I will have to go soon, but mom is changing, she's on our side now." Then my father's voice comes through the line yelling at Abby about her weight.
I can't let Harry know who just called me and/or why. If he's going to be an ass then I can't allow him to change just because of pity. I pretend nothing happened and continue to cut my chicken.
"Who the hell just called you Cass?"
"Just a friend." I dismiss the subject, but of course Harry won't allow it.
"Who the fuck just called you?" Harry seethes.
"Liam! Goodness can't I just get a little privacy?" I mock harry with his earlier words.
"So, you answered a call from another man while you're one a date with me? Cass how many time do I have to tell you? We will be together, I know it."
"You know what I find quite humourous Harry? The fact that you say we will be together yet you never tell me you want me or why you like me or maybe you could tell me why you believe we will be together? Some magic voodoo shit or something? Talk to me Harry! Tell me something, don't just be a dominating and possesive man over me because I've already had enough of those to last a lifetime."
"Dammit Cass! I shouldn't have to shower you with compliments for you to understand this small concept." Harry hastily lays down five hundred dollar bills before walking towards the door. I follow him out trying my best to keep up in Payton's silver Stilletos. Harry hops in his car and puts the key in the steering wheel. I open the passenger door, and slide into my seat. I buckle up in case he decides to take me down with him.
"You know what I thought the night you carried me to my room?" I ask rhetorically. His emeralds meet my eyes as I continue, "that you were a great guy under the black clothing and alcohol, under the rude comments and the rumors, I had a sliver of faith in you. When you asked me to dinner I thought I would finally be able to see why you think we would be so incredibly great together. I thought this would be your chance for my faith in you to grow." I huff. Harry's only response is turning up the music and continuing to drive towards my dorm.
When we roll up the bumpy, grey, and dusty road I pull the door handle to get out. I have one tan leg out before Harry speaks, "That night at the club I looked at you and instantly felt jealous of the man behind you. Your aqua eyes are beautiful, and constantly reveal your emotions. You resisted me, and that's a first. You aren't like the rest; you somewhat put up with me when you have absoluetly no reason to."
"Goodnight Harry." I can't respond other than those few words. I need time to fully understand what the hell just happened, for the second time tonight. Harry, complimented me?
