I stood in awe of the energy the boys presented on stage. Admittedly, it was no surprise with the way they had been behaving all day, but it was such a difference from what I had been expecting. I had never asked what music they played, I wasn’t really interested, but now I was in love with their songs. I stood side stage bobbing along to the catchy tunes. If someone had asked me this morning what I would be doing in my evening, this would not have been my answer.  I caught Michael’s eye as he bounced around the stage with his guitar swinging back and forth. He flashed me a giant grin and I couldn’t help but find his pure joy contagious. I gave him a small wave and he screamed a set of lyrics into his microphone, not breaking eye contact. I had only known the boy less than ten hours but I could already tell that this, performing, was his absolute happiness in life. They all seemed so at home, so fulfilled on the stage. I laughed as a girl screamed louder than the rest when she caught Michael’s pick. I walked closer to the edge of the stage to get a closer look at the crowd. The arena was huge and every space was packed with cheering fans. The sun hadn’t quite set yet so the faces of the fans were still visible in the last moments of daylight. From the few that I could see clearly from my hiding place, they were every bit as happy as the boys performing were, perhaps even more so. The songs passed too quickly and I jumped backwards as four sweaty boys ran off the stage.

“Don’t you dare, Michael.” I narrowed my eyes as the boy handed his tech the guitar. Michael widened his eyes innocently and continued to close in on me. “No. You’re disgusting. Don’t you dare.” My back hit a wall and I squealed as a pair of sweaty arms wrapped around my shoulder. “Ew! Michael!” He squeezed me tighter and I tried my hardest to squirm out of his grasp only to be caught by another.

“Accept it!” Ashton shouted and I could feel myself begin to stink with the smell of sticky musician.

“You guys are gross.” I huffed when I was finally let go. I ran my finger through my hair, desperately trying to get rid of the tangles that had accumulated.

“So did you love it?” Michael grinned as he flicked his arm over my shoulder, guiding me back to the dressing room. I shook my head and crossed my arms over my chest. “You’re lying.” I turned away so he couldn’t see the smile on my face, adamant that I would hate their set until I got a t-shirt that wasn’t covered in sweat.

“I will hate it until I get a non-stinking t-shirt.” I could feel Michael roll his eyes as I dipped into the dressing room behind him and he chucked a plaid button up top towards me. “I loved it, you were awesome.” I winked and Michael beamed.

“I knew you’d like us.” I was instructed to wait here while they showered and kept myself busy by figuring out how on earth I was meant to make a shirt that was four times too big for me look good. I buttoned the shirt up until the top three and pulled it down under my arms. Making sure the collar was tucked in I tied the shirts arms together under my chest and knotted them. It wasn’t perfect and it wasn’t totally flattering but it looked decent and it did the job. In fact, the green looked quite cute on me. I fixed up the edges of the top and examined my creation again in the mirror and grinned to myself. Damn straight I could make a cute ass top out of an oversized button up. I flopped down on the couch to wait for someone to come and entertain me or for the boys to return. I counted a grand total of 598 holes on the perforated ceiling before the door swung open again.

“Allie! Are you topless?” I placed the voice as Luke and turned around on the couch so he could see more than just the top of my bare shoulders. “You know,” he smiled as he took in my creation. “Most girls just enjoy wearing the shirt as is.” I shrugged and settled back down again, pulling my feet up underneath me.

“And I’m not most girls.” Luke chuckled as he rubbed his hair with a towel. “You were really good, I had no idea you could sing like that.” Luke gave me an embarrassed smile and threw the towel over one of the chairs.
