She walked away and he watched her; he made no movement to show that he was going to run after her.
It was as if he was frozen in place after she broke up with him.
She broke up with him out of nowhere, it was as if she planned this ahead of time.
He could tell by that smirk on her face as she walked away and by the bounce in her steps.
What had he done wrong? Why did she leave him on that wonderful day?
They had just got done having lunch at her favorite place and they were about halfway to his house when she stopped them in the park.
But it wasn't just any park, it was the same park that he asked her to go out with him about five years ago.
Then she said it, those five words he never wanted to hear ever; "I want to break up."
He didn't get to say anything to her or ask her why, "We're done." was the last thing she said to him.
Once she was done saying those words; she just turned around as that smirk appeared on her face and walked away from him.
He stood there as she walked away; he was still frozen even after she was no longer in sight.
Then it happened, the tears, all of those tears that he was holding back just came flowing out of his eyes like a waterfall.
But it was also as if the sky felt his pain too because after he started to cry, the rain started to fall down and it covered up his tears.
"I'm no longer crying alone." he says to himself with a small smile on his face but he didn't move as the rain came down harder and faster with every passing minute he stood there.
All he did was look straight ahead where she walked away from him; he was hoping and hoping that he would see her come running back to him as if it was a joke but he knew that deep down it would never happen.
He saw the signs but he thought nothing of them back then because he didn't want to believe that she might leave him for someone different.
It all started four and half months ago, she started to pull away from him and stay out later than normal.
Then when she got home around one in the morning, she would sleep in the guest room which she only slept in when she was mad at him.
So he would try to make it up to her by taking her out of taking time off of work to spend time with her but nothing worked.
He didn't want to force her to stop being mad but he trying to figure out what he did wrong but nothing could come to mind.
All of that lasted for about a month and after that she would sleep back in their room together but she would still go out late.
Then something else changed, it was her phone; it started to go off in the middle of the night when they were trying to sleep or when they were together.
Her phone was always going off, it never stopped and that made him nervous because he thought that she could be cheating on him with someone else and that was the reason why she was staying out so late.
But he pushed it all off to the side because of the love that he had for her and also for the love that he knows that she has for him somewhere deep inside of her heart.
He just needed a way to find it and bring it back out again so they can move forward with their life, so they can continue on the path that they both had set out with each other.
Although, he could also tell by the look in her eyes that she wanted to move on to someone new but he loved her too much to want to believe that she wanted to move onto someone different than him.
Isn't that what love is? When you love someone so much that you try so hard to get them to stay with you but you don't force it on them too much because you might push them away even more.
So that is what he did; he tried everything he could to a certain extent and then let her have her have her time to herself but in the end that ended up being the wrong thing to do because now she has left him.
Maybe if he had listened to the signs before this point then this wouldn't have happened.
He could have left her before she dumped him but his love for her was too strong and blinding him to the point of no return until this moment in time.
She showed him her true colors and that she no longer wanted to be with him; be with the man who gave her everything and just about anything that she wanted because he loved her that much.
He worked extra hours, saved up money, and sacrificed stuff that he wanted for her; everything was for her.
Then she just dumped him left he was yesterday's paper because there was no more use for him anymore.
He was that old shirt that you found in your closet and since you don't like it anymore, you put it in the trash.
But even now as the rain is coming down on him; he still wants her to come back to him.
Maybe just to hold her one more time, to have one more day with her, just to see that smile and hear that laugh that would appear on her face when he told her a joke, and just to maybe hold her hand one more time because he didn't want to let go.
But he knew that he had to move on from her because she wasn't going to come back to him.
So he closed his eyes that have become red and puffy from the crying once more and looked at where she disappear before turning around and walking to his house.
As he was walking, tears were still coming down his face but for some reason, he also has a smile on his face as if knowing everything was going to be okay.
