The First Day

"have a great first day honey!" mom called from the car. I was taking my first step onto the place I was supposedly going to spend my next five school years at. Westbrook Jr./Sr. High school.

I waved to her. I didn't really feel like talking to her but I had to acknowledge that I heard her so she would leave me alone.

Ever since she took me from my last school I have been pissed at my mom. Of course, I was only at Springlake for the first semester of this year but I still loved it there. In my short time I met some of my best friends.

Springlake was my 18 school since I was in kindergarten and out of all of them, it was my favorite. "I cant believe she would take me away from another school." I lied to myself. I knew she would do it again. I garentee I won't stay here at Westbrook either.

I wasn't ready to go inside the building yet so I stood outside on the sidewalk taking everything in.

The concrete was all cracked like a construction crew was here right before me ready to tear it up. The actual building had painting and writing all over it. I felt like I did a total 180 from Springlake.

That school was gorgeous. It was fenced off but not like normal school fences. This was like the fence that the white house has. It had a breathtaking driveway leading up to the front doors. It wasn't like a regular school. It was more like a mansion where kids could learn.

When the gate opened in the morning it was a scenic from a movie. The water fountain going, the big beautiful building that invited everyone in. Westbrook was trash in the ghetto compared to Springlake. I already hated it.

I took my first steps up to the front doors. "here goes nothing." I took a deep breath and pulled on the handle.

Locked. Shit.

"what am I supposed to do now?" I looked around and couldn't find anyone or anything to get me in. "it must be a sign." I smiled.

Just as I was about to ditch and walk somewhere, the door buzzed opened. "Left door please." said I woman with a groggy voice. I pit a hand on the left door and took a breath. "here it goes." I thought. I pulled the door open and walk inside.

MY heart immediately sunk. This place is disgusting. There is trash everywhere. The students look likeental patients and maniacs. Half of these kids should be incarcerated! Oh and the teachers? Yeah they look like they were hired off the street. Literally. They all looked like Homeless bums, the kind that you see in movies that sit on a newspaper shaking a can in your face.

I walked into the office. It looked halfway decent. Not nearly as bad as the hallways. I just kept looking around.

"how may I help you young lady?"

I turned to my right to see who must of been the lady who buzzed me in.

"today is suppossed to be my first day."

"name please."

"Katherine Denver."

The lady looked down at her computer and started typing things in. It took her a good three to five minutes until she finally looked Up at me again.

"one moment." she got out of her chair and went into another room.

I turned around to take another look around. There were kids sitting in chairs. Im guessing they are here because they are delinquents.

I felt a tap on My shoulder and jumped. "sorry. Didn't mean to frighten you." the lady at the desk told me.

I turned around. "it's ok."
