Dalton's POV
We returned from our honeymoon and pulled up to the house. It had been finished before the wedding and ma along with Cass put the finishing touches on it while we were gone.
We got out of the truck, walking up the porch to the front door. I opened it and before Harper could protest, I hoisted her into my arms and carried her over the threshold.
I set her down as I wrapped my arms around her, "darlin, we're home."
"It's amazing Dalton. It truly is," she said with a sparkle in her eye. It was something that had been sorely missing for a while. I released my hands from her then slid my hand into hers, leading her over to the couch. I sat down and pulled her onto my lap. She let out a squeal as I wrapped my arms around her.
"Dalton!"
"Darlin, you are my home," I said sincerely as she looked at me. She leaned in and kissed me. The rodeo might have taken me on an adventure but Harper gave me a home. When it came down to choosing between the two, there was no picking between them. I would choose Harper every single time.
As we sat there, I couldn't stop smiling. She was the reason for that smile. She would be the reason for all my smiles.
"By the way, I have a doctor's appointment. We'll get to hear the heartbeat and find out the sex of the baby," she grinned.
"I can't wait. We should really figure out names," I sighed.
"I was thinking for a boy we could name the baby Hank and for a girl we could name it Martha," she said simply. She wanted to name the baby after her parents. I couldn't begrudge her that.
"I think it's perfect," I smiled as I pulled her to me, pressing my lips to hers.
After a few minutes my wife decided she was hungry. We got up and went into the kitchen. We found the fridge stocked as well as the cupboards. We also found pie on the counter. We went after the pie.
I grabbed a couple of forks and brought the pie to the counter as we both took a seat and dug in. One thing was for certain, ma didn't make the pie since she can't cook. This pie cake from my grandmother. Best pies in Tacoma Falls.
I also poured us some milk to wash the delicious sweet treat down. After we gorged on it, Harper yawned. All the traveling and pie induced frenzy, tuckered her out.
I stood up, "come on momma, time for bed," I said as I held my hands out to her. She took them as I pulled her to me. We made our way up to our room. After changing, we crawled into bed and both fell promptly to sleep.
She snuggled into me as I wrapped my arms around her. I loved this feeling. Having Harper here in my arms. I drifted off to sleep as did she.
*******
Harper's POVI awoke the next day as Dalton snuggled me. Then I heard it. Bubbles. I knew what that meant and gently shook Dalton.
"Mmm, five more minutes," he mumbled into the crook of my neck.
"Dalt, the baby is moving," I said as he opened an eye.
"Huh?"
"The baby. It's moving," I grinned as his other eye opened. He looked at me as we heard bubbles. His eyes widened as I looked at him. Then he moved putting his ear against my stomach. Then he heard the bubbles. It was like a popping sound.
It was subtle but we could hear it since it was pretty quiet.
He turned his head and spoke to my belly, "hey little one, it's me, daddy. One day, you are going to come to us and we are going to love you a bunch. You hear me. A whole bushel."
I couldn't help but giggle at his enthusiasm.
"Oh, you think that's funny, don't you?"
I giggled more before he started tickling me. I let out a high pitch squeal as he pinned me down on the bed, crashing his lips into mine.
We made quick of our clothes and he found his way inside of me. He went slow as we made love. Just as we had done every day of our honeymoon.
Dalton, made love me so tenderly. My husband poured all his emotion into it each and every time. When we finished, we laid in bed. I ended up falling asleep. What can I say, my husband wears me out quickly. Between him and the baby, I was exhausted.
*********
Dalton's POVAs Harper slept, I got up and showered. I pulled on some clothes afterwards and went downstairs. I decided to put on some coffee.
There was knock at the door and I answered it to find pa there. He came in and followed me to the kitchen, "I see y'all settled in," he said to me.
"For the most part. Harper is sleeping right now," I said as he took a seat at the counter. Once the coffee finished, I poured a couple of cups for us.
"The stables are almost done. I have new horses arriving that I'm going to need help breaking," he mentioned.
"Sounds serious if you need help," I said to him.
"Yeah, they're pretty wild," he said as he sipped his coffee.
"Let me know when. I know Harper has a doctor's appointment soon. We're going to find out what we're having," I told him.
"I remember when we found out we were having you. I was so excited to have a boy, then came your brother and sister," he chuckled.
"I think I want to try and get through the first one before another comes along," I sighed, causing him to chuckle.
A little while later, Harper came downstairs. I got her a cup of coffee while she raided the fridge. She ate as we visited with pa. I told her about pa getting new horses and I swear she was more excited than we were.
I just had a feeling, these horses were more dangerous than we would realize.
Oh my. It seems things are going to get a little scary for Dalton. Get ready because the unthinkable happens in the next chapter.
