Storm's coming

Dalton's POV

I hitched up the horse trailer and secured it. Storms were rolling in and I wanted to make it back before they hit. I climbed into the truck and made my way to Harper's. It took a lot of convincing with her father to let her come.

I pulled in and went to retrieve her.

He mom opened the door and let me in.

"So how long do you think you'll be gone," she asked with concerned.

"Hopefully not long. Storms coming and I want to get the horse back before it hits. But if anything happens, we have a cabin close by for shelter," I explained.

I could tell by her expression she was worried.

"I promise to take care of your daughter ma'am," I advised causing her to relax a bit.

"Damn right you will take care of her," her dad ordered.

"Oh daddy, give Dalton a break. He won't let anything happen to me," she assured him as she gave her parents a kiss on the cheek. We left out of the house and walked to the truck.

"Your dad hates me," I sighed.

"Dalton, my dad hates anyone that comes comes a calling for me," she smiled.

"Anyone?" I looked at her a bit confused.

"Don't worry, you're the only guy who has come a calling," she rolled her eyes, reassuring me.

"Good because your my girl," I smiled.

"Yep, I am," she grinned.

We climbed into the truck and made our way to the Murphy ranch. As I drove, I kept an eye out on the sky. The wind started to pick up a bit.

"Looks like the storm is going to hit sooner than expected," Harper said worriedly.

"I reckon. Maybe we should lay low for a bit. If I collect that filly and the storm hits, it will startle it before I have a chance to bring her home," I said trying to stay calm.

As we made our way to the cabin, a weather advisory came over the radio causing ma and pa to be concerned.

"Payton?" She looked at pa.

"We need to secure the horses and quickly," he advised.

This just in! Tornados were spotted close to Butcher county. All residents are advise to take shelter immediately!

Cass and Sawyer cane running from the house, "ma! Dalton is heading right for the storm!" Cass yelled causing pa to stop.

"Payton!" She looked at him terrified.

Tornados are heading to Tacoma Falls! Take shelter immediately!

They announced on the radio as they all felt the wind pick up. The sky turned green and off in the distance they saw it. An F3 was headed their way.

The horses were restless making racket in the stalls as pa looked then made the ultimate choice.

"Everyone into the storm shelter now!" They all ran to the storm shelter as he followed only to look back at the stables. He heard their cries but his love for family came first.

They climbed down as the tornado ripped threw, with pa slamming the door shut and bolting it.

The wind picked up and so did my speed. There was no chance we would make it to the cabin in time. I pulled off to a farm house and we got out of the truck, running to the door.
