The sun rose against a dark city. It rose inch by inch, seeming to struggle to chase away the darkness of the city, the shadows still visible. As the sun awoke slowly, so did the citizens of the city. Each person, dressed either all business-like or dressed casually. They walked along the streets, not speaking to one another or giving a simple smile as a greeting. They simply avoided eye contact with one another, and went about their business.

But there was a specific two in the crowd, who seemed set apart from the casual and normal. Two teenage girls, maybe the age 16 or 17, walking down the street right next to each other.

The first was a girl of average height with strange dark blue hair- bright, intimidating yellow eyes, and pale skin. She wore a black hoodie, dark blue jeans, and black knee-high leather boots. As casual as she had dressed, how dark her clothes were didn't make her strange.

It was the strange scales on the side of her face.

They were on the left side of her face, visible to a lot of people (but none cared), only leading up to her eye an a bit of her cheek but not reach farther than that. The girls face was grim and emotionless, as she walked down the street, passing strangers; uncaring.

But the other teenage girl was very different. She was a bit shorter than the blue haired girl beside her, her hair was shoulder-length short raven-black and her eyes were each a different color. Her left was a normal chocolate brown, while the other was a strange dark purple. Her skin was only a tad darker than the girl beside her. She wore a dark blue shirt with white stripes, a black choker, a black leather jacket, dark blue jean shorts, and black laced boots with white laces. As normal as she would also seem, the dark clothing wasn't what made her strange either.

It was the marks on her face.

Black marks that went straight down her face, right above and under the eyes. It curved as it went a bit above the eyebrow and also when it went a bit below the jawline. It made her look intimidating in a way, but that was immediately erased by her wide smile.

She skipped down the street, alongside the emotionless blue haired girl, looking around and smiling at people who walked by. She radiated positivity.

"So, Mally. Where are we going?"asked the optimist. The blue haired pessimist rolled her eyes,"I thought I told ya when we were back at the shack. We're grocery shopping, food remember?"she asked, her emotionless expression becoming a tad irritated.

"Oh! I had forgotten!"she said, giving a sheepish chuckle afterwards. The pessimist huffed,"Honestly, Lily. You forget things too easily."she said, impatient. The optimist shrugged,"I guess... But at least I have you to remind me!"she said, giving her a friendly smile.

The pessimist rolled her eyes once again, placing her hands in her hoodie pockets, looking away without replying.

They both continued to walk, not saying another word to one another.

Suddenly, walking upon an alleyway, the two strange girls saw a strange man looking over a much young girl. She had to be 13 or 14 at the least. She was against the wall, tears falling down her face as the man continued to stroke her hair and touching her waist. It seemed harmless, but the things he was trying to do to the girl were horrid and rather not said.
