I opened my eyes. I was in a hay field. Maple trees dotted the hills and the wind blew the glowing stalks of still green alfalfa as tall as the top of my thigh gently. The bright sun shined through the sky streaked the clouds with blues, purples, pinks, and oranges that come with sunset. It was utterly beautiful and peaceful.

To my left, I heard a girl dressed in a blue and white dress squeal with delight and laughter. Her curly hair billowed behind her as she ran away from a different version of myself.

This me looked just like me, except her hair was a shinier black, her eyes were a bright, happier blue, and her skin glowed a golden tan in the sunlight rather than the pale white of my porcelain skin.

I knew in my gut the girl was dream me's daughter, and she was so beautiful, so young, and full of life. Her hair was black and curly just like mine and her her eyes shone the same happy blue as dream me. The girl and dream me played in the field until the sun set behind the trees, playing hide and seek and racing each other from tree to tree. Even though I know how this dream ends, I still very much enjoyed this part.

After a few minutes of watching them play their hearts out they started moving away from the field down a curvy dirt road. They walked and skipped down the beaten path up to a rustic cabin surrounded by maple and oak trees. Smoke puffed from the brick chimney and floated into the air and further away. The pair raced to the door, but dream me let the precious girl win.

A man came out of the kitchen to  greet them both when they entered. He twirled the girl around with a huge smile on his face. They both bellowed with laughter. The man wrapped his arm around dream me and nuzzled her nose with his. He kissed with her so much love and affection that she melted into his arm and the girl squealed in disgust. The adults merely laughed and continued holding each other a moment longer.

The man started to pull dream me away from their spot in the foyer to the kitchen where he had made dinner. It was my favorite: meaty spaghetti and cheesy garlic bread.

She smiled in delight and kissed him again. They hadn't begun to eat before there was knock at the door. The man stopped dream me from standing and got up instead to get the door.

When he opened the door, the sound of a gunshot blasted through the house. The girl screamed in fear and dream me jumped up to help the man she loved so dearly. The first thing she saw was a geyser of blood spilling from a hole in his chest and creating a growing puddle on the floor next to him.

She fell down next to the man with tears rolling down her cheeks and grasping at his clothes hoping that he was still alive. He looked up at her and lifted a hand a caress her cheek.

It never reached its destination. A single tear escaped his eye as his hand fell lifelessly down to his abdomen. She sobbed harder draped over the lifeless man when her head was yanked back by her hair.

The perpetrator continued to pull dream me back by her hair to the closest guestroom and dropped her there. She stood and backed away from him as he dug into a duffle bag he had brought and retrieved out rope and duct tape. He put the instruments of torture down on a dresser before he finally turned so she could see him.
