"IF ONE MORE person tells me I can't eat on the bus, I'm gonna kill everyone." Mina threatened quietly.
Her body was bent towards the window in a vain attempt to cover the small orange fruit she grasped in her hands. Ned, her seat partner, snorted slightly and gave her a small grin.
She gave a grimace in return.
Looking around for any sign of a tattletale, Mina nestled into the window seat, her head bent down further and began peeling her orange silently, so as not to draw attention to herself. She was fully aware that eating on the bus wasn't allowed but she was too hungry to care.
If she got found out and kicked off, well, it would be early release of some sort.
Mina had the fruit peeled and was just lifting the first slice to her mouth when a hand felt around her face. Whoever it was accidentally put their fingers in her open mouth and clawed around.
Mina gagged and she heard Peter mutter a quick sorry from the seat behind her. The black haired girl sighed, turning around at the same Ned did. At Peter's wide eyed, panicked expression, both teens were instantly on high alert.
"What is it?" Mina asked, her voice low and secretive. Peter wasn't looking at her, and his gaze was at Ned, who was staring past both of them, out the window and into the horizon.
"Ned, I need you to cause a diversion."
The sentence was barely out of Peter's mouth when Ned jostled around, his mouth hung open and his eyes huge with excitement.
"Holy shit. We're all gonna die!" Ned yelled cheerfully, getting up.
He was staring in joyful surprise at the thing Mina just noticed; a huge, circular, hole-like thing hanging in the air, moving in a counterclockwise motion. As it spun, it sucked up multiple birds as they flew by.
A donut.
Mina's own face dropped in shock, barely noticing the other kids as they flock to the back of the bus, trying to see the giant metal hole and yelling in panic. From the front of the bus, their bus driver said something that was lost in the crazy chatter of the kids.
Mina was suddenly aware that she was being pulled and she snapped out of her daze, glancing around. She looked down, seeing Peter's hand locked onto her wrist, leading her to an unoccupied seat.
He unlocked the emergency exit window and it fell down with no problem. Peter turned to Mina, eyebrows raised and she understood what he was silently asking her to do.
She fumbled with her backpack, pulling it over her shoulders as Peter climbed out of the bus first. He instantly pulled his mask on and motioned for Mina to climb out as well.
Once she did, Mina buried her face in his chest as they hung on the side of the bus. She didn't have the time to reach into her bag and put on her mask so her sight is limited to the ground and Peter's gray hoodie.
