So for this chapter, I'm going to kind of put you in person B's mindset. Person A had died, one way or another, but not of old age. They died young. Trigger warning in advance, but I'm not going into a lot of detail. Here's what person B might be thinking even weeks after:
They're gone. No! I refuse to believe. A wouldn't give up like this! They'd never leave me like this, ever. I still see them everywhere. I can hear them still. Not gasping for air or pale as paper like they were in their final moments, but like they were just a month ago. Alive. Happy. Healthy. Or so I thought. Why didn't A tell me?
Now let's give a reason for A's death:
Why didn't A tell me their pain? Why didn't they show me their scars? Why didn't I notice them consealing their arms or being distant? Why didn't I notice the bottles of pills littering their house, just out of sight? Why did A leave me all alone? How could I let this happen? Why couldn't I call an ambulance faster?
Maybe B is blaming them-self. Also the cause of death doesn't have to be this. An accident, car crash, or illness is less triggering and can work too. A murder also works. Ooh one twist could be that A was a serial killer and died by execution and B didn't know until then. I'm sorry I get dark.
If this is a blue exorcist story, person A could have been dragged to Gehenna and died (or be believed to be dead). If this is an attack on Titan story, titans can easily be the cause of death. Noragami stories can have person A killed by a demon or even a god on accident. If this is a twin star exorcist story, person A could've been killed by a kegare or something.
If this is for a gravity falls story, anything can happen. Bill could've killed A (accident or no), A could've been killed by magic (accident or no), a gremgoblin could've killed A, etc. Anything can happen.
The way the story could go is person B goes through the stages of grief and the spirit of person A is trying to help them reach acceptance. Person B could be seeing and hearing person A everywhere and it's driving them insane.
Now for the inevitable questions section:
What happened to person A prior to death? Did either A or B have a bad feeling about anything on the day of A's death? If A was murdered, is B out for revenge? What stages of grief are person B dealing with (yes, they are different from person to person)? Will B ever reach acceptance? What were other characters reactions to A's death? How are they coping? Can they help B? How is B coping?
I'm sorry this is so depressing, but it seemed good.
