Jenna
I wasn't expecting to be excited about dressing up. Didn't even expect to feel anything. But, on the inside under layers and layers of skin, I can feel a little girl under all of that smiling from ear to ear.
The dress is painful and very uncomfortable. But as I look at myself, I see how I might look like a princess.
I walk to my shoes, a nice simple pair of heels, more meant to be comfortable than nice since they'll be hidden under my dress. There's a loud knock on the door. Steadying myself, I put my hand on the wall and walk to the door, and open it.
"Zane?" I say, seeing him. I take in his appearance, the dark sandy blonde hair and dark brown eyes. He's not Kallan. "What are you doing here?" I ask him.
He grins his charming smile, his dimple showing, "Well you are my date, aren't you?" He asks his British accent back.
Heat blossoms in my cheeks, "Uh yeah, I guess." He gives me his arm, and I almost don't want to touch him. I look up at his brown eyes, eyes that aren't his. I frown, "You're wearing your disguise?" I ask him.
He doesn't look at me, then finally says, "Yeah. Why?"
"I just...why?" I ask him, "What was the purpose of a disguise?"
"I don't know."
"So...you decided to...create a new person, a new identity and make yourself look...human and trick everyone into thinking you are a human?" I ask him. I laugh, "Heck, you don't even have a British accent!" I say harshly, my throat burning.
He ignores me, still holding onto my arm, now just leading me around the castle.
I don't know where the ballroom is, but finally, a couple of minutes later we get to a large door, the sounds of people talking and loud music very audible from the other side.
My hand goes to the doorknob, ready to dance. But I'm stopped. By Zane.
His soft hand stopping mine, his skin warm. Nervous, I shoot my hand back, glaring at him, "What?" I ask him.
"We have to wait for the others. You need to be patient, Jenna."
I calm myself, "I am patient." My eyes trail around the hallway. The hallway is big, like every other hallway here, with marble floors and large windows letting in light. I look out at the windows, looking at the cold snow lay nicely on the streets and sidewalks, no footsteps in the snow, and no tire marks on the roads. It looks very...deserted. My eyes continue to looking around outside, looking at the bare branches and the way the snow adds on a nice white to them, but I stop when looking at this one bush.
Yellow flowers bloom there, contrasting to the white background, so bright and alive it almost looks like a neon yellow.
I look at Kallan-Zane, then look back, not knowing how to put all this together. There are beautiful yellow daisies blooming...in the middle of winter, the temperature the most freezing it's been in years, and yet... there are flowers.
The sounds of light talk take my attention from down the hallway. Curious, I look to where the sound is coming from, and I see Gabby walk down the hallway, looking gorgeous, and to my surprise, I see someone tall walk with her, her arm entwined with theirs.
