freely like the wind, like the stars above the clouds, i wanna go far, i wanna shine bright.

i was racing against time, driving at full speed, ignoring the traffic police stopping me, ignoring all the pedestrians, ignoring everything.

as long as i get home, as quickly as possible.

that was what i thought.

i was young, naive, stupid.

i didn't know how the real world works.

i didn't know racing against time was useless.

you made a mistake, a huge mistake.

i tried shutting the voice in my head, but it kept coming back, like it was haunting me.

as i drove faster and faster, i eventually reached my house.

i pulled over and ran out of the car towards my house.

i flung open the door.

the scene in front shook me.

everything was a mess, papers scattered all over the floor, bowls and plates smashed into small pieces of remains, the tv screen was cracked, the sofa was also ripped.

i trembled in fear as i stepped into my house.

i looked around, trying my best to find my parents, the living room was dimly lit by the broken ceiling light, lights everywhere else were either smashed or broken.

"please jeongsuk, don't kill us! we have a daughter! "

i was alarmed by the sudden voice coming from my parents room, i tip toed up the stairs as quiet as possible.

i heard a shrilling laughter, more like a cackle as the mysterious man spoke, "your daughter betrayed you, dear mirae and jeonghan. she was the one who told me your address. why would you care about her? "

right. it's my fault. my parents shouldn't be punished. i am the one.

i ran up to my parent's room and barged in and saw my parents kneeling in front of a hooded man.

dad and mum stared at me in utter disbelief.

"w-why are you here dear? g-get out of here! "

dad yelled at me.

but i didn't listen to him. i stared at the guns pointing at dad and mum.

as much as i wanted to move, i couldn't.

"oh well well, your dear daughter is here now. shall i take her? or should take you? "

the hooded man pointed one of his guns at me.

i lowered my head in defeat and raised both my hands.

i caused this ruckus, i should be the one dying, not my parents.

"NO! DON'T TAKE MY DAUGHTER! TAKE ME INSTEAD! " i heard mum scream.

my head shot up in shock as my eyes widened in surprise.

"as you wish, mirae. "

"BANG! "

no.

no.

this can't be happening.

"NOOO!!! "

this hooded figure.

as the sounds of the siren drew near, the hooded man jumped out the window and fled.

i crawled over to mum and dad.

he shot both.

you failed to save both of them.

you

are

useless.
