I pulled up to the driveway of the now vacant house. I cut the car off and step out. The sound of my high heels clicking against the concrete. I come up on the door gently turning the knob. Locked. I step back, wondering where he hid the spare key. I look under the mat, I look under some rocks, I even looked for holes in the ground. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. I sigh, having no idea where he could have possibly put this key. That's when I noticed a plant, flowers to be exact. I take a closer look, realizing that they are fake, I sift through them until I see a dirty silver poke through the dirt.
Using the key, I unlock the door. I stepped through looking on the ground I see puddles of urine. I forgot he had a dog. Soon I am greeted with a smile puppy face. I grab onto her collar and pick her up. Looking on the name tag I see "Symphony." Must be her name. She is a small Papillon dog. Black and white. I place her back on the floor. I tell her sternly to stay. And she barely listens.
Stepping across the mounds of puppy waste scattered among the house I go straight to his bedroom. I shut the door to prevent Symphony from getting in. I walk over to his dresser and sift through his clothes. Smoke is all I smell. I wish he didn't smoke. But there is nothing I can do.
I finally find his medical records hidden in a cardboard box also filled with family pictures. Close the box and leave the room. I close everything and decide that I will come back to clean everything up and check on Symphony.
I leave the house and head to the hospital where he is having heart surgery from a gunshot wound.
