"What did he do?" Hazel asked curiously.
I shook my head, uncomfortable. "He's too----open--"
"Open. . . . how?"
"He wants me to meet him in the forest at dawn."
"For what?"
"Nothing. Nevermind. I have to go."
"I wish things were different."
"But they aren't, Hazel." I snapped. Tears filled my eyes.
"I'd rather be dead. I'd rather be dead then live here."
"But I'd miss you. So much."
She hugged me tightly. "You're like my big brother."
I hugged her tightly. "You gave me a family." I whispered. "And what have I done to repay you?"
I was in love with the sunshine doctor.
And the worst part?
He liked me back.
