"Yeah...
No...
I know..." I said basically yelling all of my petty frustrations at Alicia,my long-term buddy who I've known since highschool, "look I'm sorry," I continue, "I didn't mean to bother you with all of my mess I call a life."
"It's okay, call me back later," Alicia said so calmly as if none of the nonsense I sprung upon her didn't bother her at all.
Those were the last words she said before she pressed the button to hang up the phone--And just as I was about to take a long, hot shower. I saw another cute guy. At that point I was convinced that Star University was crawling with hot guys. He wasn't as cute as Josh, but he would definitely win my second place ribbon. I was so nervous that all of the words I wanted to say got mixed up and turned into something straight-forwardly awkward.I blurted out,"How may I have you--help--I mean help!"
Nothing--Not even a frown to show he was weirded out--Instead a friendly smile and the words,"You must be Samantha. I'm your new roommate Jae. Nice to meet you," His hand gestured in order for me to shake it.
I took his hand and replied," It's nice to meet you too...wait did you say roommate?"
"Well I mean, yeah. They said come to room 104B. Plus you're like the only girl here."
I was tempted to stomp out in anger, but I was in only a towel and we were still holding hands. He walked closer to me fairly slow--So close I thought we were about to kiss--But then he whispered in my ear,"I feel a friendship forming."
I thought to myself, you don't know the half of it.I walked out of the room and into the bathroom--Not because I didn't want to be around him--But because, well, I was half naked. "I'll talk to you later Jae!" I excitedly yet awkwardly screamed.
A couple of days before that one,6 to be exact, I took Josh's handkerchief. The reason being,I thought he stole my lucky shirt I wear before a competition which turned out to be not true at all. In order to apologise,I washed it for him. Though once I gave it back,he was quite angry.
He mumbled words like,"That was my lucky handkerchief...I can't believe you!"
Although he was mad,not once did he hit me--Not even a little--But when he walked towards me I got scared and backed too far back. Before I knew it I was in the deep, shallow water. At that very moment, I thought I was about to die. That was the first time my life ever flashed before my eyes.I knew I wasn't going to make it,so I just stopped breathing. What was even the point--I never learned to swim nor have I tried to learn.
Just as the cold water began filling my lungs, two soft hands wrap around my body and pick me up halfway out of the water--And just before my vision cleared I heard them say,"Chubs it really is you."
I didn't quite hear the rest, but I had a good feeling it was Josh. I then stared deeply into his piercing sky blue eyes, and remembered everything from our past...how he held me...how he stood up for me...and even how he made my promise that in 14 years if we still knew each other we'd get married.I remembered it all and it turned me into a tomato.I had to do something--Anything.So, I did what any illogical person would do at this point. "Ugh you pushed me in!" I screamed trying to get off of the hot sand he laid me on before.
"It was an accident,I swear! You know I'd never hurt you on purpose,Chubs," He said holding out his hand to help me up.
"I do not need your help!Just leave me alone." I don't know what came over me,but I didn't like it."And that is not my name!" I continued as I turned around then stormed back into the dorms.
