Exams is over for Diddi though her friend still has two more papers.
Last week after her little discussion with Bappa Ali, he told her he's the person behind all those good luck messages. When she asked him why he keeps on sending the message whenever she has exams he shoved and again refused to answer her question.
She didn't even tell her friend because Inna is always hyper these days and she will just assume something else.
Diddi is enjoying herself watching a Black American series and eating from the big bowl of junks in front of her when a call came through on her phone. To her greatest surprise it is Hamma Haydar. She decided to receive the call after all its not like they are not on talking terms "Assalamu alaykum. Hamma Haydar longest time". They exchanged greetings like nothing happened or nothing is happening to them.
"Are you at home please? I tried Inna's line its not going through so I guessed maybe she's writing exams. I have something for her and I am on my way to Kano please come and collect it on her behalf". Diddi is wondering whether he is sick because his voice is so low, this is not his usual tone when he is talking.
She kept the system and wore a veil on top of her abaya before heading towards their small gate. She saw him coming out from his car. He wore a blue kaftan with blue cap. He looks handsome.
"Boddoji a vodi bana kodai"(beauty you look beautiful as always). Noi exams? Allah hokku sa'a(How is exams? all the best)". She greeted him and offered to bring him water(refreshment) which he declined.
"Inna is writing her exams and her phone is here in the room. She switched it off".
"Boddoji when will you consider all my pleas? I am a changed person wallahi. Please forgive me". She sighed "Hamma I thought we have passed that phase now? please lets forget all that happened and search for happiness elsewhere..." he cut her before she completes her sentence "you are my happiness Zainab. You are the woman I love and the woman I want to live with as my wife and mother of my children".
His last sentence touched her, it hurt her heart. Her eyes turned red but she kept quite. She doesn't want to remember what is in the past especially this part that he is talking about children. I could have been a mother now she thought but immediately waved it with astaghfirullah because that's what Allah planned for her.
"What did you bring for Inna? is it a wedding gift?" she grinned widely almost all her 32 visible. "Umm yes but I don't know whether she will like it even though her love for meat alone I guess will make her like it. I wanted to call and ask you but I thought you wont pick my call so I just went ahead and bought it".
She got tired of standing so she opened his car and sat down "haba Hamma why wont I receive your call? I told you times without number you are my brother I wont disrespect you. Can I see what it is? I am eager" she changed the topic. "Okay"
"When I went to the shop the woman asked me what I want and since I had no clue I just told her my sister is getting married I want to buy her a gift so she brought out many things and I selected this" he pointed at the box of a portable medium sized indoor griller he kept on the floor very close to her legs. "The woman said I should wait for her to wrap it but I was in a hurry. I know Inna's love for meat that's why I selected it ".
"Lalle ma vodi dada boddo am. An na wadi be hore ma?" (the henna looks beautiful on you. Did you design it yourself?)
She hurriedly tried to pull her abaya to cover her legs but its not helping so she gave up trying to cover it. "Ahh vodi sosai Hamma a habdi even though I am jealous I wont be the one to use them. I know she will love it" she said trying her best to act normal because she feels somehow when they are together. The feeling she cant describe but she's just not herself whenever they are together.
