Teeth chattered together as Perseus slowly drew himself from the realm of Morpheus. He cracked open one eye and groaned as he became more aware of the ache in his shoulder."Welcome back my-lord," a strange voice greeted him cheerfully, "Quite a hit you took from that witch back there! What was it like? I was down a servants' stairwell when she struck you with her ice magic and I'm dying to know what it looked like!"
"Well, your patient Lord Perseus over there is dying of something a bit more serious than curiosity if you're quite finished bothering the good lad." A second voice scolded the first gently, it sounded old, and definitely female, "Please don't mind my granddaughter my-lord, she's a curious child."
"I'm not a child!" The first cried indignantly, "I'm almost ten years old!"
"You're a child." Perseus bluntly declared, "It's fine, I love children."
The young one cried out indignantly and gently smacked Perseus on his injured shoulder, making the latter let out a quiet hiss of pain.
"Audhild!" The older voice screeched at the child, making Perseus wince again as the noise grated itself over his eardrums. "What are you doing?! Do you know what this man could do to us?!"
"No really, it's fine..."
"He could get you thrown in prison! Have both of us thrown in prison!"
"Hey!" Percy shouted, "That's enough! Throwing you in prison would certainly be counter-productive then wouldn't it? You, maybe saving my life, then me having you punished for a child's mistake." The young one, stayed quiet this time, perhaps scared by her grandmother.
There was silence for a moment, then the grandmother replied quietly,
"I'm sorry for shouting and assuming what you'd do my-lord, I have heard stories of Lords turning on their servants after even the slightest insubordination..."
"I could definitely see Triton doing something like that..." Percy muttered, then let out a guttural cry as the grandmother took a needle to his shoulder in an effort to sew him back together. When at last she finished putting his shoulder back together, Perseus let out a heaving breath and grunted his thanks.
At last he deigned to fully open his eyes to the world; he was in a cellar of some sort. It was all made of stone and there were shelves of different herbs and remedies stacked all along each wall and a roaring fire occupied half of one of the walls, its heat radiating around him and yet he still felt a chill. A grubby little child stared at him from the farthest wall, wrapped up in a thick quilt, her hair was sopping wet and she was shivering beside the fire. Closer to him, an ancient crone was easing herself into an old, battered rocking chair. Pulling a small, handheld loom from one of the many little tables scattered around the room. She smiled at him, revealing her yellowed, poorly aligned teeth to him. Perseus forced a smile back to her. Perseus looked back over to the young child sitting by the fire and smiled again. The child's face lit up as the little girl beheld the smiling prince. Her lips split in an ear to ear smile which revealed her teeth, two of the front teeth were missing but Perseus could tell she would be beautiful if she took care of her body through the next decade.
"Where are we?"
"We're underneath the castle waiting for a reprieve from the cold so we can send the visiting lords and ladies home." The crone didn't even look up from her loom.
"I'm sorry," Perseus questioned, "Did you say a reprieve from the cold? It was mid-summer at that ball. How long was I out?" Panic was creeping into Perseus's voice as he worried about how long he had been unconscious. "Was I in some sort of coma? No, that wouldn't make sense, my shoulder's not healed, I must have..." Perseus tried to rise but the crone was instantly beside him, pushing him back down to the slightly bloodied table.
"Whoa, slow down. You were only asleep for a few hours. It's not the real winter now, no, it's that witch. She froze the whole kingdom."
Perseus blanched,
"You mean to say," he paused, considering his words carefully, "She's that powerful? That dangerous?"
"She looked afraid when she was fleeing the ball but I don't know what to think of that. I mean, why would she have to hide with power like that? She could make us a kneel before her."
"Could you please find my first mate? He has something that could help me."
The crone paused part-way through talking about the queen's power, her gaze turning contemplative.
"Audhild," The crone began, fetch Birger and tell him to find the Greek first mate. I need of him"
The child hopped to her feet, smiling ear-to-ear again and replied enthusiastically with a small hop to her,
"Yes grandma Rane!" And with that, the girl darted off to find Perseus's first mate.
"Birger," Perseus chuckled, "The one who helps."

"My-Lord?"
Perseus woke to the sound of his first mate's voice, Jason peered at him with mild concern,
"I have what you asked for..."
"Thank you Jason, just pour it over my should and then dribble a couple drops in my mouth."
Then, just as Jason poured the strange liquid over the previously gaping wound, it started to knit itself back together. Skin fibers stretched out from the undamaged part of Perseus's shoulder and connected with parts on the other side. After only a few seconds, there was nothing left but some reddish, sensitive new skin.
Perseus extended his hand and Jason grabbed it, pulling him to his feet. Perseus pulled his first mate into an embrace but quickly pulled away.
"Good to see you again sir."
"Glad to be back on my feet." Perseus smiled ear to ear and gently cuffed his childhood friend over the head. "Audhild," Perseus began, a startled yelp sounded from the shadowy corner and Jason quickly looked toward the sound. "Could you lead us outside please?"
"Ce-certainly my-lord!" The child stuttered out, obviously surprised at being caught eavesdropping.
"Thank you," Perseus said gently to the young girl as she led them to one of the walls, upon which stood a doorway that lead into an upward spiral staircase.
As they climbed, Perseus retreated into his own thoughts about the queen of Arrendale, he worried what she might do... food... shelter... water wouldn't be a problem with all this snow on the ground.
The other two were huffing and puffing by the time they reached another wooden doorway which Audhild opened with a key hanging around her neck.
The door swung open and as he stepped outside, a gust of freezing air whipped Perseus in his face drawing tears from his eyes. The latter of which began to water, the tears freezing to his cheeks.
"By the gods..." Jason muttered, coming out behind him, breathing in the crisp, freezing air, "Winter has come..."
While I was rewriting this I found a couple inconsistencies, sorry for any changes I made...
