Pushing those thoughts from the forefront of his mind, Percy continued on his way, proceeding through the crowded streets towards the towering cobblestone castle with beautiful jade roofing.
Percy marvelled at how such an isolated and remote queendom could have such a modern taste in architecture.
As he slowly followed the flow of traffic through the main gates of the castle, his eyes widened at the cross of modern and old-fashioned in the church hall.
The arches supporting the roof were magnificent, similar to the insides of roman cathedrals today. They arced three stories above his head; stained glass was woven into the creases in the roof, giving it an ethereal glimmer that bathed the room in ripples of different colors. It seemed to hypnotize Percy, the faint glimmer of greens and blue, even the purple, it made him feel at home, in the ocean.
Underwater.
He was brusquely pushed aside by the young girl from before, the one who had been singing in the street with her shimmering green and purple dress. The one who had been grabbing people's hands and shaking them.
She had a piece of seaweed in her hair, Percy didn't know why, so he used his water powers to subtly remove the vegetation. She carried on, unaware that she had been touched by magic, by gods.
The girl quickly made her way up to the raised dais at the front of the church, apologizing as she pushed past people.
As Percy was seated, an announcer marched up and onto the dais.
"Introducing Princess Anna of Arrendale!" Which was followed by polite applause which made the girl on the dais blush heavily.
"And Her Majesty Princess Elsa of Arrendale!" As the man spoke, a beautiful woman made her way slowly up a small set of stair at the back of the dais.
Percy's breath caught in his throat as he applauded along with everyone else. The whole world faded away until it was just the queen in the room with him. He completely missed the rest of the ceremony as her simply stared at the queen. In a haze, Percy heard the priest speak the last words of the coronation ceremony.
"I pronounce you Queen Elsa of Arrendale!" And with that, everyone stood and applauded their new queen.
Percy followed the crowd through the vast entrance hall and through a smaller, side corridor and into a massive ballroom. It was huge; it towered above him like he was inside a small, hollow mountain. It was easily the same height as the entire Athenian castle, maybe even as high as the Trojan wall. Support beams arced through the air, reaching the top of the hall in a curling design, pressing against the beam on the opposite side of the hall. Painting of the kingdom's history were sprawled all across the roof. They told a story of peace and prosperity despite the war all around them and in the rest of the world. On the walls all around the room, old kings and queens were displayed on paintings. Normally with their significant other, eternally preserved with each other, but occasionally, they were depicted separately. He couldn't determine why...
As he was looking around, a speaker announced the entrance of the queen of Arrendale, Queen Elsa, immediately followed by Princess Anna of Arrendale.
Dancing music played from a magnificent organ built into the front wall of the hall, different musical instruments were being played around it in a giant orchestra. It was absolutely wonderful, the music seemed to reverberate into his bones and in his soul.
A long line wound its way through the ball room, in the empty spaces and in the gaps, couples danced traditionally, the males' hands on the women's hips, the women's hand on the males shoulders, their second hands were clasped in front of them and they all spun lazily in circles, occasionally handing off their partners for someone new. Everyone was perfectly synchronized.
Slowly, the line crawled along as different nobles and representatives from kingdoms across the globe, seeking a trade agreement with the small nation.
A tiny man with a toupee stood a couple of nobles in front of Percy, his fake hair jumped up and down each time he stepped forwards, exposing a bald patch in the middle of his head. His pointy face seemed a bit dog-like.
When the man reached the queen, Elsa of Arrendale, He introduced himself as the Duke of Weselton and bowed low, nearly scraping his long and pointy nose on the floor.
He babbled on for a moment about how his country was Arrendale's most constant and influential trade partner. This made Percy wary, He had learned young that smaller people in high and mighty positions don't get there by accident, they all have some gift that places them above the larger and more intimidating men, He would have to be wary of this little shrimp of a man...
Percy was so caught up in those thoughts he almost missed when the Duke offered to dance with the queen, then he couldn't resist cracking a smile and chuckling slightly as Her Majesty effectively threw her sister under the chariot by saying that she, herself, didn't dance, but the princess quite enjoyed it.
The Duke promptly dragged the princess off to dance as she looked back at her sister, jokingly mortified.
Percy watched the pair dancing, Her Highness the Princess standing awkwardly in the middle of a circle made by the Duke, who was performing some sort of chicken dance.
Maybe I was wrong, maybe this man was appointed Duke by mistake...
Percy was still smirking slightly and watching the Duke as the last noble in front of him finished speaking with Her Majesty the Queen, Queen Elsa. He only noticed he was wasting time with the queen when the attendant cleared his throat noisily and spoke to him,
"Ahem. Sir..?" Percy blushed scarlet.
"Ah yes, sorry, my apologies," Percy bowed just as low as the Duke and caught a small twitch in the queen's face as he did so, making his face flush slightly more.
Oops, now she thinks I'm a suck-up prat...
"My name is Prince Perseus of the Greek empire," Percy started as he rose from his bow, "I am the third in line for the title of emperor. My step-father is the late Lord Agamemnon of Argos, King of all Greece since the Trojan War. My brother Triton is now the Emperor of Greece. I'm here today with the interest of initiating a trade deal with your country. I understand there is an incredible source of Jade and other precious stones in your region..?"
"You understand correctly Sir Perseus. We have some truly incredible mineral deposits in our mountain home. I would be honored to be the one to personally negotiate a trade deal with yourself." Queen Elsa replied, "Madame," She said turning to a servant nearby, "Tell Aberthy to come down so she can manage my schedule for the next week as Arrendale is open to visitors. I need another meeting with Sir Perseus here to negotiate trade."
Elsa then nodded to Percy, indicating his dismissal if that was all he had to share with her.
Color rose in Percy's cheeks as he cautiously spoke again, surprising the queen and her attendant.
"I also understand that you do not dance, but it would give me great honor if you would dance with me when you have the time?" He phrased it like a statement but spoke it like a question.
Her Majesty paused for a moment, as though considering his offer.
"I suppose dancing would be fun," She paused for a moment, deliberating, "Yes, I suppose I could, but if you could please give me a moment to finish up with introductions."
"For Sure," Percy replied, bowing, but being careful not to bow too low.
Now he just had to wait for a few more representatives to introduce themselves to the queen.
How fun,
Waiting
