Veiled

So this is how it feels to know you're incomplete
And so keep going back till all you see is black,
The curtains drawing closed, your heartbeat racing now.
The rhythm that you thought was your life, harshly torn.
I dry the tears.

He told me he'd love me no matter how stormy
We'd fight through the battles and together we'd win,
That he'd treasure my hand and he'd be my man,
But now he barely smiles his eyes are bleary tiles
Of black and white.

And my friends they tell me, that i deserve better.
Through the veil around us I feel the haunting lust
The sparks of hope and light that they don't know about.
And somewhere in his soul, there's still a me-sized hole
I'd love to fill.

But I wish he'd let me in, I wish he'd let me help him
That he'd remember all the hopes and dreams we shared
And the ones we'd altered just for each other...
We came into this as kids
With the odds stacked against us.
The odds haven't changed
But we have.

Fair warning to humanity: Your friends are usually right, sadly, and end up tormenting you with 'i told you sos'
