The heat from his cheeks didn't come from the sizzling meat on the grill, the loud crowd that came in at the same time as him, or the heater being turned on on full blast to battle the cold night. No, it was from the insecurity bringing his confidence to ablaze.
He sat with a man who was more dressed-up than him, more confident than him, more masculine than him, and more 'better' than him. Namjoon felt as if he was at the bottom of the stairs of standards, and the man was right on top.
"... Namjoon, right?"
Namjoon looked up from his hands and looked back at him. "... Y-Yeah, that's me," he says over the chatter and music around them.
The man held out his hand and smiled. "Jackson." Namjoon took his hand and shook it gently. "It's nice to meet you."
"Likewise," Namjoon nods before putting his hand back on his lap. "... Tell me about yourself? The food might take a while to cook..."
"Yeah of course," Jackson nods, "Should we get started with a bottle of soju first?"
Namjoon gulped, shaking his head. "No thank you..."
"It'll help ease up," Jackson insists, yelling over a waiter over the music and waving his hand.
"I-I don't-"
"I'd like a bottle of soju, please," Jackson asks the waiter who rushes over with a notepad. The woman nods, "I'll bring it as soon as I can." She smiles warmly at the two men before scurrying off to tend to the other costumers.
Jackson looked back at Namjoon and rests his elbows on the table. "Have any questions to ask?" He says.
Namjoon pursed his lips before speaking. "... Not really, just tell me a bit about yourself. That's all..."
Jackson nods, "Well, Chaewon already informed you about my schooling history already. I take some acting roles whenever I can, and after your guys play I'll be auditioning for an entertainment company. If I get in I'll move back here in Korea officially. I've visited America and did some studying there as well, but in High school. I went to Dubai, Thailand, etc etc for vacations during college breaks. Dubai was absolutely gorgeous, you look like you'd love it there. I had a lot of fun studying overseas, but I'd like to rest and stay in one place for a bit, you know? Sometimes you get homesick...."
Jackson seemed to blur from Namjoon's view as a man with pitch-black hair - a few tables away from Jackson - laughs loudly and raises a glass of beer. A smile big enough, and Namjoon could hear his voice sing along to the music on the speakers surrounding the restaurant. The man's voice cracked every time he tried to reach the high notes, and he'd laugh right after messing up. Rosy cheeks and almost crinkling eyes. Namjoon started dumbfounded with pink cheeks.
