EIGHT YEARS AGO...
"Thank you for coming, Namjoon. We were worried Jungkook would feel lonely this Christmas since we're away from home this year."
Namjoon shook his head with a gentle smile. "No worries! I'm glad Jungkook and I can still celebrate Christmas together. My parents are okay with this. They're just glad I won't be home alone."
The snow danced in the cold breeze of winter's day. Thick jackets and fluffy hats kept them warm, and the scent of a warming fireplace coming from the cabin just in front was probably the most calming thing outside from the city buildings and rowdy roads. Birds were their new alarm clocks, now shutting themselves from the modern world. Just them: Jungkook, his parents, and Namjoon.
Namjoon's family couldn't add to the group of Jungkook's family since they decided to fly out to the States to visit their relatives. Not wanting to break tradition, Namjoon stayed back to be with Jungkook. They've been celebrating such day together ever since the younger was born. Jungkook never felt alone, never. Being with Namjoon during Christmas was always and will be a special day.
"If it's okay, we're going to head out for the day to has some time to ourselves," Jungkook's father stood beside his mother, her arm wrapped around his. "We'll be back around midnight. We trust you both won't cause anything? I know we brought you all the way out here to celebrate with us, but work has really been getting away from our own time together. We haven't gotten time to be alone without Jungkook. My wife and I just haven't been to our own dinner time since our anniversary. I hope you really don't mind..."
Namjoon had been sitting in the backseat with his legs dangling outside the car door, facing the two adults. "N-Not at all! Please, take all the time you need."
He was surprised by their proposal. Jungkook and Namjoon never spent a Christmas alone together. Never. Jungkook was notorious for being easily homesick. Without his parents, how are they going to celebrate? Namjoon wouldn't be able to trust Jungkook by himself. What if he found some liquor cabinet? They're not old enough to drink yet, but Jungkook's curiosity has already gotten the best of him once. Jungkook has always been mischievous.
But if it meant Jungkook's parents could relax, then so be it.
Jungkook came out from the front door of the cabin. "You haven't gotten out of the car yet? I'll get your bags."
Jungkook's parents smiled with gratitude before getting the house warmed up for the two boys. Leaving them alone outside.
Jungkook pulled out some luggage out of the trunk with his nose pink from the cold. Ears bright, poking out of us beanie. He could easily get red from weather, it was a trait Namjoon always found cute.
