"Let's talk about your friends, shall we?"

I breathe softly to try and control the anger I know will make an appearance sooner or later. "Nothing you say will convince me to hand them over to the likes of you." I try to keep my features as neutral as possible but I know he can see the distaste in my eyes.

Borac merely smiles a soft, unconvincing smile. "I expected you to say that." He pulls a letter from his pants pocket and slides it across the table to me. "Which is why I brought you this."

He watches as I pick up the crisp letter and unfold it. My heartbeat quickens at the sight of the familiar handwriting in dark blood as ink. I run my fingers down the dried blood letters and my nerves jump with recognition. It's Thanatos' blood.

"What did you do to him?" My voice barely comes out above a whisper. "Just read the letter, child." Borac stays still in his seat as I try to control the tears forming in my eyes.

The last I heard from Thanatos was when I woke up feeling every ounce of excruciating pain that he felt. He said they found him. It must've been the Force.

I take a deep breath and look down at the cursive words. He always did have the neatest handwriting.

Dearest Alexa,

I know we have had our differences. This past year has been...eventful. But you were always my weakness, and now, you are my only weakness. These people know this.

They captured me from my creator, the one that made me the god of death. They destroyed the words she put in my mind and replaced them with something greater. A purpose.

They are giving you the rest of the time in the cave to pick a side. Either deliver the rogue agents over to the Force, or suffer the consequences that I can promise will be far worse than losing a couple friends.

I can't bear the thought of seeing you hurt, you are my second half, my twin. I am hoping that you think carefully and pick the right side here. I cannot protect you from the terrors to come if you refuse.

Choose wisely,
Thanatos

"I ask again," I look up from the letter with fresh tears in my eyes. "What did you do to him?" I carefully fold the letter as I keep my eyes directly on the monster before me.

"It's like he said," Borac tilts his head to the side as he observes my emotional reaction. "We captured him from Kala, extracted the curse she placed over him, and made him into exactly the kind of person we wanted him to be. He chose to use his blood as ink so you would believe that it was he that wrote the letter."

I shake my head. "That's not possible." My voice breaks and I angrily wipe the fallen tears away from my cheeks. Thunder can be heard from outside the cave as the sky darkens slightly.

"It's taken us years to create but it was finally successful. We let him keep the title of the 'god of death' because, I mean, he kind of is." He smirks as he leans back in his seat.

"You think that since I am his weakness that he is mine?" I meet his eyes as I temporarily lock my emotions tightly in the back of my mind. He nods his head once. "I know that he is. No matter what he does to you or the people you love, you still forgive him. You will want to try and save him. You can't."

"I think this discussion is over." I stand up from my chair and collect my papers. "This was a waste of my time. I can see that you never expected to find peace here. The white flag agreement ends when I leave this cave but I trust that you will not harm me." I smile bitterly at the man still sitting in his seat.
