Friday came around and that morning I found a note in my locker from Matt.
Madison, meet me by the concession stand at 6:45 before the game
-Matt
I thought about it. I decided to meet him. So I left my house at 6:30 and sure enough when I got there so was he.
"What's up," he said.
"Nothing much. Why did you want me to meet you here?"
"I just wanted to make sure you came since your friend filled in for you during our conversation on Monday."
"Well, I'm here!"
"Good. You'll get to see me play my first game this season. Meet me back here after the game because I have something else to tell you."
"Okay," I went and sat down in the bleachers. I checked my phone. 5 minutes until the game started. I waited until the band started playing. The cheerleaders held up the banner as the players ran through it. I spotted Matt. Number 88. I thought to myself. Just to keep an eye out for him on the field.
At halftime, instead of going to the locker room Matt climbed to the top of the rail on the front row where I was sitting. He stared at me. I stared back. Our eyes met and for a split second I felt something. It was something indescribable. But then our gaze was broken by our mascot (the tiger). Matt jumped down and went to the locker room. The cheerleaders were preforming stunts and I was still mad at the mascot for ruining that moment.
We were winning 28-16 and didn't get too far in the third and fourth quarters. Matt got at least 4 touchdowns during the game. Ugh. Why did he have to be good at everything.
After the game was over and we had won I met Matt by the concession stand once more.
"Tryout for volleyball."
"What?"
"Tryout for volleyball. What harm could it do? Your good at it and I can tell you like it."
"I can't. What if my grades fall be cause of a sport?"
"They won't. You know why? Because your great. Your smart. And... and... and well your cute. That should be an advantage. At least it is for me. Your also really sweet. I don't think I've ever met a girl like you before. Just please tryout. I know for a fact you'll make it."
I blushed. Did that mean he liked me? "Okay, fine I'll tryout only if your there since it's after football practice and you want me to do it so bad."
"Deal!"
