i woke up to a bright light hitting me. "where the fuck am i?" i thought i sat up and looked around. i was on my classroom floor. but no one was here. i slowly got up and walked out of the room. i walked into the hall and saw dead bodies on the floor, some teachers and students. "what the fuck?" i thought "what the fuck happened?" i walked down the hallway and down the stairs to the assembly hall and saw the same thing. no one in sight and dead bodies scattered just about everywhere. my breath became shaky as i looked around. i reached the cafeteria doors but was met with growling from the other side. the doors read: "don't open, dead inside" i took deep breaths in attempt to calm myself as i walked out the main doors, outside. as i walked out i saw someone walking towards the fence. "hello?" i called out "hey!" i said speeding up towards the person by the fence. just as i was almost face to face with them, they slowly turned around revealing a man with his skin nearly off his face, he growled at me as i stepped back in horror. i fell down as he stepped towards me. just as he was about get me a stick went straight through his head. he fell beside me as i looked up in horror. "Sam? what the fuck are you doing?" "Ashley?" i said looking at her in confusion she grabbed my hand "how long have you been here?" she asked pulling me up "i just woke up on the floor in my class... why are you here?" i asked "ive been trying to find people i know, shit just happened so fast.." she said slowly looking at me "do you know what happened?" she asked i shook my head slowly she took a deep breath "these things" she said pointing at the thing she just killed "are dead.. but theyre alive in some weird way, happened a couple of days ago, i don't really remember... everyone went crazy trying to evacuate" "so like a zombie apocalypse?" i said looking around at everything around me she chuckled "something like that" "look" she started again "itll be dark soon, i found an apartment complex near by, im staying at one and we can look for more supplies or whatever you need tomorrow morning" "i wanna check on my moms, my girlfriend" i said "sam, its gonna be dark, that wont do us any good, trust me" she said firmly i sighed in defeat "fine, as soon as the sun comes up were going out" "got it boss" she said smirking "lets go" we walked for about a block before we reached the apartment complex. she opened the gate and we walked in. "fancy" i said looking back at her as she closed it "rich people that could afford this shit" she said locking it she turned around and sighed "okay, this way" we walked passed a few apartment buildings before reaching the one she picked out i guess, every door was open except hers "why is every door open and not yours?" i asked "since i cant lock it on my way out because i was alone i have them open so i could know if anyone took it or went in it while i was gone" she explained i nodded as she began to open the door. we went in and shut the door behind us. "here, help me move this against the door" she mentioned at the couch we both pushed it against the door and i plopped myself on it. "what a day" i mumbled to myself "well its not over just yet, you hungry?" she asked "you have food?" i asked sitting up "canned beans is all i got" she said bringing me a can with a spoon "thanks" i said starting to eat it she sat by me "how long was i there for?" i asked "what do you mean?" she asked "i remember sitting in class and then there being an announcement that we were having a real lockdown and everyone couldn't leave because things were happening and everyone in my class started panicking and people were running and throwing things and thats all i remember, i just blacked out after that" i said attempting to remember "that was two days ago" she said reaching over to move my hair out of my face "let me see" she began examining me "does it hurt?" she asked applying pressure "a little" "you have quite a bruise though" she said looking "i don't remember getting hit though" i said thinking back "it was hectic, you might've missed it" i simply nodded beginning to eat again. after a few moments of silence she got up and walked towards the windows "what are you doing?" i asked "its starting to get dark, light a match and turn on that lamp while i cover the windows" she said i got up and did what i was told. once she was done she grabbed some blankets and pillows "lets get some rest for tonight, tomorrow is gonna be a long day" she said as she set up. we got as comfortable as we could before she blew out the lamp. "hey ash?" i asked after a few minutes "yes?" "do you think ill find them? my family or my girlfriend?" i asked "i don't know sam, maybe but i wouldn't get my hopes to high" i sighed and turned over, shutting my eyes.
