Aubrey

"Hi... I'm Aubrey Chandler. Tyler's- um—friend."

My own voice sounded so different to my ears; and I knew why. The emotional exchange between Tyler and his mom was so strong, and it actually made me realize how much I missed my own mother.

Tyler's face fell with disappointment when I mentioned the 'friend' word.

Wait.

What did he expect me to say, acquaintance? Sex slave, cook? Our relationship doesn't have a definition and I'm afraid to say that it never would.

But I actually have to admit, today in that car, I realized how much Tyler loved his family, even though he was too butt headed to show it, it was written all over his face, how worried sick he was about Jullie, although I didn't know her, but I was also worried.

"Oh, Tyler didn't mention anything like this over the phone," His mom said, I tried so hard to withhold a smile. "but It's nice to meet you, Aubrey." She shook my hand.

For someone who's daughter's at the brink of death, she seems jolly, too jolly.

"Are we allowed to go in?" Tyler asked his mom who was still smiling at me and holding my hand.

"Yes... You can go in, I'll just have a little chat with Aubrey here." His mom said.

By chat, I wonder what she wants to talk to me about? Although his mom looked nice and all, but I couldn't help but wonder.

Tyler's gaze turned to meet mine. "Are you going to be alright?" He asked me.

"Of course, you should go in." I replied, I knew he wanted me to follow him, but he needed to do this on his own, because the way he explained things, he seemed to have been away for so many years.

When he walked into the hospital room, his mom led me to the chair she had been sitting on, so we were sitting side by side.

"Everything will be alright, Mrs Bresfort." I said to her, but all she did was smile.

"I know. You can call me Alice. Mrs Bresfort makes me feel too old." She said.

"Alright Alice," I said with a smile.

"So tell me, are you just his friend, or his girlfriend?" She asked with wiggling brows, and bright excited eyes.

"Oh, no we're nothing like that, we're barely even friends."

"You know I know you're lying right? For Tyler to bring you here, you mean much more than just a friend to him. Tyler would never bring a friend this close to family." She said.

Something in me grew warm at what she said, did I actually mean more to Tyler? Does he think of me as more than just a cook? Or a sex slave?

I shouldn't be thinking about this.

"I see the way he looks at you, He cares about you, even though it's been close to twelve years since I last saw my boy, I still know him." His mom said, I couldn't hide my surprise.

"Twelve years?" I asked.

Alice gave a light nod.
